Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

I wanted to share some good news

All 7 puppies have found homes!!!
SIL and will be able to watch all of them grow from afar.
The last 3 went home yesterday with a friends mom. They have some big shoes to fill that were left by Big Ben, they will have 10 acres to run around on, and some new horse friends to meet!

Thats awesome!! Much better homes than I'm sure they would have had (if they survived)... Thanks again for taking them all on!

goats may restore pasture, but only thing i know to contain them is a hot wire! (at least ours) DH tried a few for pets and one in particular was an escape artist. Jumped 8 feet straight in the air over a fence; had to make it 10. Pushed on the fence to make it curl up, and went right under. Bashed the gate until it broke, .......you get the idea! See those smiling eyes? There is a reason! They are cute, and if you get them make sure if you have boys they are neutered early. Ours were, but i think that goat was done too late, he did everything an intact goat did .

Girls are pretty safe, and you can milk them! But don't keep they boy around, you can rent one for to get them pregnant and save the hassle!

I have quite a randy buck and he doesn't escape his fencing. Doesn't even try to, even when a girl is in heat (and when one is in heat, he really wants to go over and introduce himself!). No hot wire here, either. And trust me, he LOVES the girls. But he is a gentle boy. A toddler could lead him on a piece of dental floss, and he stands wonderfully for hoof trimming. I guess it depends on the laddie!
You goat looks awfully round for just 1/2 way through, triplets? or maybe just fur. I love the tufts.

Part of it is fur, part of it is roundness. She is rounder when she has a good load of hay in her rumen. She's not porky or fat though, like she is overweight. I will be excited to see how many kids she does have! I am certain of her date, though. Her and Georgie only had one day and night of romance, hah.

I plan to go in Feb/march if you'd like to join me! I'll be picking up some eggs but plenty of room in the van for chicks or chickens coming back

Add me to your list of people that would LOVE some of those Swedish flower eggs. So pretty and I read they have wonderful personality.
Brethren - so glad your dh is improving!

I would love to! My Swedish Flower Hens are not old enough to lay yet, but as soon as they start I will let everyone on here know! Spring for sure! I just love mine. I am always tripping over them when I go to feed.

Question

I even looked it up in my book on chickens and can't find an answer, at what age can I start giving my chicks that are 4mo leftovers like we do our laying hens, you know stuff like watermelon rinds and apple cores, my hens just devour it and I am wanting to supplement there feed with something, they are eating 5olbs about every 5 days, it gets expensive. I'm wondering if they will ever "pay themselves off"
