Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Granny was quite touched to hear everyones best wishes. Her trip to the doctor went well. It turns out that the absesses that are creating the problem are in muscle and not on the skin as her's is. Still he put her on a antibiotic and scheduled an MRI.

Came home and made a one pound batch of cinnamon glazed pecans and also one using cashews Now trying not eat them all tonight will be the next big hurdle we must face.

Having the 2nd bowl now! :drool

Awesome!  That makes me almost wish I had extra roosters.  I'm making french toast with fresh eggs, stale bread and some buttermilk I made from making butter last week out of our milk share.
Finally got some butter? That is great! I found that I can make butter less than 5 minutes in a blender! WOOT!

I had counted my birds last week, and was shocked how many I have gotten. 130! So, that motivated me to get at least one roo out to make my numbers smaller. Besides he have genetic issues that I don't want him to pass on.... I have 7 Buff Orps that I saved from going to Ravenna Auction, for I was going to take them all to the auction, but my dad wanted me to keep some for eating.... Plus have 3 Tomaru Longcrower roos that are looking for homes, so that is 10 that I am not keeping. Yay! 120 then! Have one hen that is rumpless which is not possible for her breed. I have looked at her vent, and can't see how she can lay, and her feathers below her vent is always matted with droppings. Will have to put her out even tho she is a nice looking Light Brahma. I will be sad, but Annabelle won't be....

Yes, I've been making the butter in the blender too and then culturing the leftover liquid by leaving it out on the counter until it sours and thickens. Will try whole milk yogurt next. I can't make as much as you do but it's still great stuff!

Looks like someone vomited a tree in your driveway. We used to have wood-splitting parties when I was a kid and all the men in my life were in better health. Fond memories. Have fun!

Opa, glad to hear Granny's appointment went okay. Hope her MRI turns out normal.

Tap, it's good to hear your son took the appendix removal well and that you were able to get it taken care of timely. When my oldest DD had hers done, it was after 3 straight days of taking her to the ER. The doctor wouldn't do anything because she wasn't presenting properly enough for him to be certain it was the problem. He was sweet and apologetic about it afterwards, though. Brought her a card and some flowers after the surgery.

Does driving to Chickenstock count? 'cause that's 240 miles one way...
Our nice night involved my son, the ER and an appendix removal! He's fine and looking forward to the wii, playstation, Xbox and movie library they have here, along with Popsicles.
VERY GLAD to hear Granny is OK, will keep her in our prayers that the MRI has a good out come
Project for tomorrow...

was that one of your trees or from some were else? DH, sons, grandson and a nephew, and myself, hauled a huge tree out of my nieces yard last Sat. took 3 truck loads, was already down and chunked but needed more cutting to be able to move. lots of good wood for next year.

So far this year has been awesome! I received $950 extra on my check due to some problems I had made them aware of 2 months ago. And now the best news of all....McMurray has added more blue laced red wyandottes to the dates I am getting my other chicks...I will be adding 8 of them to my order...YAY! They only come straight run so I found a gentleman in town that will take any roosters I get. It's like Christmas all over again!!!

I got attacked today by the neighbors rooster. I was walking a few of his girls back in the dark, they had come over to visit, they had heard me whistling for my birds to come down off the roost and get some mac and cheese. Anyway, I am walking them home and their freaking stud cakes rear attacked me. I have a cut on my lower calf, and one on my ankle just above where my shoe sits. I tell you, I kicked that crap out of that boy as gently and firmly as I could, but he would not stop! I finally caught him between my legs, which could lead to a whole slew of umm... jokes. SO there I stand, a rooster stuck between my knees, a bag of suet in my one hand... I put the bag between my teeth, reached down grabbed the ratturd's feet, held him upside down only for a second so I could shift him around and tucked his @$$ under my arm. Everytime he tired to squirm free, I held him tighter. Carl told me I should have kicked him more, but I was like, DUDE, I kicked him 4 times and he still kept coming. I held him for about 10 minutes while I was talking to Carl. Carl says he's going to get rid of him, because he'll be fine, won't attack anybody, then all of the sudden he attacks only when your back is turned. I told him when if he wanted a nice rooster, let me know, I'll be working on faverolles this spring, I'll give him a pair, a boy and a girl. He said, well they all get mean at about 2 years. I said, NO they don't. Mr. Fluffers was nearly 4, and he never attacked any one. Roger was a year and a half, he never attacked anyone. Depends on the breed, and with his being a factory columbian wyandotte, and not a good quality one either... they aren't bred for niceness... I told him he needs a nice fat cochin boy or a faverolle. OR keep one of his older hens, even if she's stopped laying as his head hen.. she'll keep them in line then...

RaZ, I do not envy you the task you have. Nope.

UGH! Appendix... glad you guys were on time getting it taken care of. My nephew was at his step mama's and he starte having problems, and she didn't feel like taking him to emergency. My sister drove down to LaGrange to get him, from Holland, and took him to ER... Emergency surgery. The step mom said she though he was just being dramatic. Man was my sister p-oed.
