Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

does anyone know a foolproof way to hard boil eggs so the peels come off easy? I know the baking method. Is it putting baking soda in the water?

DH does all the eggs. He says put the eggs in your pan, cover the eggs with white vinegar then add about an inch of water and douse them with salt. He says put in as much salt as you think and then add more. Boil for 10 minutes. Cool only enough to handle and peel them hot. He does all the eggs, even the button quail eggs. I don't have the patience.

BRIng water to boil. Lower eggs into water boil for 15 minutes. Remove from heat pour water off add cold water and ICE. let stand a few minutes tap each end then gently push down while rolling. Rinse and enjoy. I will take eggs right out of the coop and doo this. Theey will peel just fine !! DON'T make it too difficult.

Chicks can be vaccinated through the shell before hatching, although I think this is mainly done for large production operations where they are hatching out thousands of chicks.

Once you reconstitute the vaccine it needs to be used immediately, so it is not very cost effective if you hatch out multiple small batches at different times. Before reconstitution it can be stored for long periods.

Dying chicks in the shell can be helpful when you are trying to keep track of certain crosses but are hatching eggs from more than those particular birds.

sorry bad info,,,bout the vaccine Cutlers does not carry it, just the pullorum antigen

I think the secret to getting the eggs to peel well is the ice water, right after cooking, seems to help separate the membrane from the egg

Tap, was wondering? Does using that much vinegar flavor the eggs? I use a T or so or I will use salt but have never used that much of either,

like your avatar, what are you doing in that pic
The current avatar is a picture taken after a fire on a brutally cold day in 1976.

It's time to be up and rarin' to go. Hope just grumbled something to the contrary as she walked by. Definately not a morning person.
