Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Hope's birthday is today and she hasn't seen her shadow. Of course she hasn't been outside so that could be a factor. She was going to go grocery shopping with me but she was too but baking her own birthday cake.

Tap, was wondering? Does using that much vinegar flavor the eggs? I use a T or so or I will use salt but have never used that much of either,
no problem as long as you don't let them sit in it after cooking.

Last night we got 8 more inches of snow on top of the 5 + we got during the day yesterday. HOWEVER... the sun is out now!

So the shoveling is done and plowing mostly done (DH got called in at 4).

So I let him run around and talk to me. He actually wasn't messy, which surprised me. This isn't a great picture but where he decided to roost to keep me company. He is such a sweet rooster!

Sorta, but the link i remember about injecting stuff into the egg was one of the methods used to treat eggs laid from MG infected hens in order to try to produce MG free chicks, the easier method was the dipping of the eggs.
I do have links for vaccines too. I haven't done them yet because for me it is kinda too late, but i have the links for those who need/ want them. I tried to put up a source for all the usual ones, and tried to keep them on the lower cost/ size for smaller flocks. If anyone stops there and knows of a better source for any of them, please let me know and i'll add that link too! I try to have my gathered info handy for everyone since it seems like whenever an emergency strikes it is always hard to find what you are looking for! For any newbs, i also have tons of info on hatching, and diagnosing disease, dosing charts, color genetics, special breeds i like; it has become a dictionary of chicken info LOL. Feel free to browse, it is the blue link "fuzzy's notes" in my siggy.

There is even a link to an online source to buy chicken diapers, LOL LOL LOL.
(I may have a house chicken soon, if i have to move where they aren't supposed to be kept) I am going to join the crazy realm and make up some diapers. I also make saddles too to prevent rooster damage.

does anyone know a foolproof way to hard boil eggs so the peels come off easy? I know the baking method. Is it putting baking soda in the water?
I read on cook's country that STEAMING fresh eggs will result in easy to peel eggs when they are fresh! Just do for the same amount of time you would boil them. :)

Please don't anyone throw out eggs which might not hatch or be eaten. Please contact me. I will take them!! Will pay reasonable amount .... Although free is always nice! LO
Good to know you would like them, I havent tossed any, I was just wondering.. I only have 5 hens so i havent had any problems like that.

Darn you! LOL I was on a while ago and saw the ad, but it had already been deleted. We live just south of Bay City. What Kind of chickens did you manage to score? :) Congrats!

I still hate winter, but today is a nice day. Cold, only about 15 but the sun is out and no wind which is amazing. I snow shoed around and took pictures. Here are some:

Only three boys ventured out to say hi. Two Orloffs and a Basque.

My path to the coop used to be straight until the guys parked the snowmobiles right in the way.

My path. Pristine snow except for the field where the snowmobiles all go through. It won't last, they are digging out the snowmobiles now.
