Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Hey all! So I am pretty new to this forum and also new to the world of ducks! I am getting 10 within the next few months and I plan on showing them when they get older! I was just wonder where some shows are in Michigan that I could attend? I looked up the fowl fest and will probably be visiting that one this spring!

I'm with you - I only do 13 minutes tho, and in fact just did two for my late night, last meal. (no more food after midnight). I do however use the older eggs since they do seem to peel better; probably because of the air bubble getting bigger!
I will try it for 13 minutes. I heard that the older the egg the membrane pulls away from the shell, I don't really know if that's true.
Before she starting laboring hard. She needed some love!

Little girl getting cleaned up!

The boy just came, and the girl was taking her first sips of colostrum.

Such a cute face! He looks just like his father, except he has a huge white poll (the white on his head)

The white on the girl's muzzle kinda makes her look like a donkey!

Other side of the little gal.

He was all tuckered out!

Mama Yoko giving them some love!

I can't tell yet if her eyes are truly blue (like her father's) or if they will change to yellow. Sometimes their eyes can look blue when they are first born, but aren't actually blue.
These babies are really so cute!! Makes me want some

Opa, how was the done-ness of the white and yolk? Were they more tender than boiled eggs?

I'm a newbie here from the UP. Trying to get a feel for how to get started- we eat eggs like crazy!! (Bought 5 doz eggs last tues and here one wk later there's one left) for a fam of 4 egg eaters we better get our own!! So I'll just be stalking the forums trying to figure things out. Getting my FILs coop and haven't decided whether to get chicks or layers. Meat birds would be nice too :) So- Hi!!

I don't think that cooking eggs in the oven is worth the effort. Even though I used store bought eggs the baking method didn't make them any easier to peel. I also think that the cost to cook them in the oven is probably higher than boiling. I can say that the the yolk didn't seem quite as dry as with the boiling method.

I put 18 of the cooked and peeled eggs in the smoker when they are done I post a picture of what they look like.

Kimmie, as an egg ages it losing moisture which makes the content of the egg less which allows for more space inside of the shell. Also the membrane thins as it ages. All of these aging factors contribute to an older egg peeling easier than a fresh one. I personally like to use eggs that have been sitting on the counter for 3 weeks.
