I met a lady at TSC yesterday and she told me about a trick to put chickens to sleep. It seems that if you pass your hand over their head a few times, they calm down and fall asleep. Sounded fishy to me, but when I changed and cleaned the brooder today I tried it.

While the little chicks did not fall asleep, they calmed down as if sedated. I'll have to try it with the ducklings next.

It works that is what my 11 yr old daughter does to get them to stay on her lap.. they will stay there for along time, she can lift their wings do what she wants to them they just lay there.. she lays them sideways on her lap, and takes her glove off.. and moves her finger from their head and moves it straight out from them. and they mellow right out..
until i walk by in my orange camo bibs. and wakes them right out of their trance.. lol

Wouldn't that be nice!? Too bad I don't have the time to put the kids to sleep all the time.

I'm trying to work here (work from home)... The brooder box is in my office and they are being SO LOUD!

They stopped and looked at my hand. Probably trying to figure out if "the hand" has a treat for them today. But, I can't stand there with my hand over the box all day. LOL.

I have found (figured this out a couple days ago), that a nice loud sneeze will freeze them in place and they wont make a peep!

I had sneezed... rather loudly. I mean, who do I need to show manners to, I'm here alone. Anyways, I scared the beans out of the birds! They were all picking around, chirping, scratching, flapping... doing their normal bird business & then I sneezed. They all pretty much jumped to high heaven & then froze! Not a sound!

It wasn't for a little bit later that one of them in there started a little chirping. Just a little "cheep cheep"... wait... "cheep cheep"... wait. LOL - It was really quite hilarious, to me anyways. That's what I call "cheep entertainment".

I got four and DH wasn't very happy... Until he saw them. What a softy, lol

I'm glad that I'm not squeamish, cleaning the dishwasher. I removed all of the little covers, water jets and spray arms. There is so much gunk trapped in the little nooks and crannies. I can't believe how poorly designed this appliance is.

So we're back from North Carolina I had my 30th birthday while there and went deep sea fishing with my brother and husband. We caught some nice size false albacore (sp?). On the way home I got to meet up with a couple fellow silkie breeders in Burlington,NC and picked up some nice blacks and a white pullet. I also found someone who has splash showgirls and picked up the only one she had left. It's a cute little thing Now I'll have splash, patridge, blue, black and white showgirls in the flock! I'm also setting about 6.5 dozen silkie (and a few showgirl) eggs tonight! I'm hoping to over flow the brooder in a few weeks LOL

Today my husband asked me to go for snowmobile ride before he went to work - probably our last for the season. What an amazing day to ride! As much as I want the snow to go away and spring to hurry up and get here, days like this make me glad I live in Michigan
