Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Still no development on our d'uccle's comb. At 7 weeks, Ruby's comb is still teeny, and only the slightest hint of pink. I think we're in the clear?
I won't be surprised if we have a pair of silkies. One is just bigger, slower to feather out, stands differently, is a little more aggressive. In other breeds, I know these are signs of cockerel. Can the same be said for silkies?

And you had to be the first on the page, LOL (Silly)

Thanks for the help/ ideas, i never thought of the fact that WE could be blamed for this. I talked to my mom about what happened, and she said that there is a new law in the works that would severely punish animal abusers by imposing a huge fine for each animal, and also that they have to be on an offender registry for i think 5 years? Great idea, but i don't want to be on the wrong end of THAT! I love my animals too much to even consider a life without having any.

The hardest part is going to be to get DH to adhere to the diet restrictions, he wants to jump in and feed. He's already went through the shock and anger, now he's moved on to denial..... but i'm going to do my best for the both of them.

Fermenting...this is my first time trying it so I don't have much info to provide. I have been trying to read (catch up) on this post:

Yes the bucket is covered and in a box. My understanding is it needs darkness and I want to keep bugs and dogs out of it.
I'm not sure if I have enough vinegar in it, though it is kinda bubbly but not as much as I think it should be. I'll try to feed it tonight.
I'm using layer pellets, cracked corn and barley seed, Braggs ACV and water.

Sprouting... after one day, the sprouting has started!
I am not sure how this will help the critters yet, other than it is green and fresh. I don't think it should be feed in place of grass hay for the rabbits, or alfalfa for the goats... but if fed in addition to, I am hoping it will cut down on some of the other foods.
Raz, I wish I could help with the ducks, but thats one critter, cute as they are, we tried and they aren't a good fit here. I take it they are not allowing you to keep anything.
he he he ... yeah I saw that 999, and had to see if I could nail it!!

Didn't a few on here get chicks from Cedar Creek Hatchery? I'm attempting to incubate again, and if it doesn't go well (again) I'm going to be done with hatching and just buy some chicks. I know that for shipping and such there are minimum orders, but some of you also just picked them up? Was there a minimum then? I should probably just call them, but I don't want to waste their time if my hatch turns out decent......I don't want to be that person that calls and asks a ton of questions and then doesn't buy anything.

unfortunately, in this day n age, the one who has things documented first is the one people listen too. So, you may want to get a vet visit and have it documented that he's under vet care in case Gladys Kravitz decides to stick her nose all up in your business!
