Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Bento, a friend is someone who lifts you up and stands by you. This person does not fit that description. Maybe there would be less tension in your home if you kicked her OUT. So sorry to hear about your birds.

Bentominion, Well... Heres what I'd do... get rid of the friend first... Second, get a coated chicken wire, and line your whole coop floor with it around the whole perimeter. I would not have a problem driving to your place to help you with the security problem on your coop/shed/whatever. If you have to get rid of them for sure, I am not so much interested in the quail, but I wouldn't have a problem taking the other chickens. I have enough wood from the wood I just picked up for free to build 2 coops.

I am going to guess that you've either a weasel that got in or a raccoon. I am also going to guess it's going to be back tonight or tomorrow. Sorry for your losses. Those types are always a hard one to deal with.

ok i just figured out that my 3 barred rock chicks i purchased from tsc that are getting close to a month old, are probably not what i thought they were, sign on bin showed barred rock.. i am guessing its jersey giant.. these 3 are all black, white down underside.. and black legs with yellow soles.. so i am kinda disappointed.. was really wanting the barred rock that is the only reason why i got 6 more chicks from them..
does anyone have jersey giants.what do you think of them..

well i am sure i will get used to the idea of not having barred rocks.. live and learn, i guess its meant to be..

does tsc carry french copper maran chicks because these look like those also.
Are you kidding me I love love JG's way better then barred rocks they are so calm and pretty when their feathers are grown in. Black with a iridescent green. They are big and they eat a lot, at least two years before they mature. Love my Jersey's

front black and white..? no white on head like the others.

this one now that i look closer may be barred rock.

my white leghorn was posing so i snapped a picture, they seem pretty friendly

this brown one is a mystery chick anyone know what it is

here another pic of mystery chick

is this beginning of barring.. if it is i may have a barred rock.. maybe i have 2 of them.. is this what they look like when they are young..
JG's beaks are black

Hi Kimmie

What was wrong with your rooster?

I havent been on here for about a year now.

Who is going to the Alma show on May 4th?

Where in Alma is it held? I am planning on going.

Is there a special breed for Fly Tying hackles?

I had thought it was about all breeds that are used, but what do I know?

Jake
Hi Jake, he broke his leg I am sure from jumping off the roost, but I had grabbed him by his leg to catch him and sprined it or something so he was favoring that one. Oh well live and learn I guess.
I am going to Fowlfest in May it's just out of town at a fair grounds or somthing it was soooooooooo cold last year I was not prepared for it because it had been so nice except that day. Lots of birds for sale.

Kimmie

So we have been toying with gettting goats for a few months. Well, today during my daily Craigslist check I found a Nubian/Fainting doe, already bred to a Nubian buck, ready to birth in the next few weeks... she was FREE! So Guess where I went LOL

LOL! I saw that ad and had to restrain myself from going to get her. I don't have the right fencing for goats, thank goodness, or I would have gone ahead. Good luck - can't wait to see pics!

X2, how far are you from Millington? except about wanting more birds.

A nice morning today, no sun but some blue sky to the west.
Those are great chick pictures. I so want to hatch more but it has to warm up first. I saw this depressing information this morning on snow and the latest we've had it. http://www.upnorthlive.com/news/story.aspx?id=889101#.UXkaLIWnydg
Kimmie and Bentominion sorry for your loses.
Raz I loved the caterpillar/butterfly info. I made a list of plants to add. Last year I lost my dill crop because I couldn't bring myself to remove the swallowtail larva. We have raised many varieties, I think Tomato worms are the most disgusting, but still really interesting. It is hard for me to understand why everyone doesn't find nature fascinating.
Enjoy your day all, we have a chance at more white stuff today.

awww bummer.........

Bentominion, I think I would have to agree with others........ a "friend" you cannot trust to help you, or to honor her commitments to pay her way, is just taking advantage of you. You sure she's not feeding your DH a bunch of bunk about rats so she doesn't have to mess with the birds in the morning? Besides..... if you do have rats, you had a rat problem before you got birds. Most rats will kill and haul their food to a cache pile for later. (that's what my pet rats did, little buggers!) the others will eat on site... and just heads or pieces... More than likely, it's coon, skunk, possum. weasel or dog. Good luck with you DH convincing him to keep your birds. If you need to re-home your quail, please PM me. But I hope you can keep them - don't give up. I found if I gave in to everything my DH didn't like, the world would only revolve around him and what he liked...... Everyone is entitled to have their own hobby to bring them pleasure, it's not supposed to be one sided. (or kitty might go on an extended vacation).
So this pallet I'm tearing apart for my milk stand............. I couldn't believe some of the pieces were tiger striped oak!
I had barred rocks years ago.......can't say as they were my favorites.
Are peacocks edible?
I have 6 to get rid of. I've lowered my price on Craigslist to $400 for all..... I'd be happy to lower it more for someone on here! PM me if you're interested! I had two people interested on craigs list..... one went "poof" when I said this was a cash sale..... the other, all talk as well. I hate selling on CL.

Craig's list! We were trying to sell a boat and had call after call wanting to trade everything under the sun for it. And there was the guy that showed up and said - "I've come to the conclusion that I will give you $250 for the boat". Unfortunately for him we were asking $375 - firm, which was make clear to him in advance. After that, in a fit of ire, I raised the price to $450 and we sold it the next week for $375. I am not cut out for bargaining, that's for sure.
