So couldn't i simply get her tested for the diseases that could be passed to me? (If she has salmonella it really would be a need-to-know thing anyway, since i could get it from her eggs too! I've had parakeets since i was a kid, and i didn't really think of it much differently except for the initial risk since she's been kept outside for almost a year. At any rate i've been coddling these birds the whole time, so if they have anything i have it too more than likely. :/ People that buy direct from hatcheries, wouldn't that be less of a risk? Idk on this whole issue, i never expected to be a "chicken nut", that's for sure!

I really loved her mother (in my avitar) . She acted more cat than chicken, and her daughter is the same way. Don't fit in with the others, getting picked on terribly. Too nice, too smart. My intentions were to bring her mother in before the last winter, but the summer heat took that option away from me. :( I've been searching since i first got that bird for others like her, and even through breeding "hope" is the only one that fits the bill, even her other daughter isn't this way. When i find the right rooster i want to try to hatch more, but right now the thought of losing her is terrible for both the emotional and the practical reasons, so she's getting treated "as if" she was one of those expensive chocolate colored ones!

I am in the woods a lot too....wait ...I LIVE in the woods

I got the one tick on me just from walking the dogs down the driveway.

That reminds me of the little boy whose mother asked "Where did you get those grapes you're eating?" "Off my dog" he replied.

Lady, nice looking fence! And those are the BEST egg cartons. That was very nice that she gave them to you. They hold the larger jumbo eggs from the older hens very nicely, where the regular cartons can cause the eggs to crack. Love them, but sadly I only have a couple. Bring them to CS & I'll trade you 3-1 or better.

Ugh. My silkie chicks are 12 weeks old & I still can't tell them apart. Definitely don't have combs like you chick does. Just by looking down at them, they don't seem to have any comb developed. I was going to try to give them a super close look over yesterday (check closer for developing comb & wattles that I can't see just by looking down at them), but saw they were all muddy from the rain & figured it wouldn't hurt to wait until another day. Nobody is trying to crow... but I don't think I could get that lucky & all 3 be pullets. ?? I need a better look. Ahh, you're killing me! Am I gonna have to get guineas too??!!! Where would I put them?
Maybe you did get lucky! My ee roo crowed young too about 3 months. Now he thinks he's a little stud. Although you can practically see the older girls roll their eyes at him when he struts for them. He sure tries to impress though.

Fuzzy, you have to remember that comes from someone (me) who has had chickens in and out of the house all the time - also I am in and out of the henhouse quite frequently without washing my hands (what a bad example!!) and keep unwashed eggs on my kitchen counter. I think that you are unlikely to become ill from your own birds that you are around all the time, as you have been exposed to anything they carry no matter how many times you wash your hands. That is like worrying that kids put dirt into their mouths.

Just an idea...........I can set up a store so anyone who wants it could order in the size they want. Let me know asap so I can set up and orders could be sent on time.
