Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

I don't certain people. Tight now. i sm pretty upset. So, we original had 9 chickens. Our setup was weak do we give them to a friend to watch till we can take them back.

Now, 5 of those have already died. The 4 remaining she won't give back! They are MY chickens, we even offered $50 for just 4 chickens that arnt even hers!

The catch, she knows we arnt aloud to even have chickens. So we can't take her to court or something. If we stole them, she will come to our house and see them. Ugh!

She only wants them coz she used to have 32 chickens. All of them were slaughtered by something but 16. She just got new chickens but still refuses to give mine up! Peep, is one of those 4. The one my profile pic is of and name.

What just wows me, is that she said she would by me 20 more chicks instead of just giving me the four. I just want these darn chickens back! Each one means ALOT to the whole family.

Any ideas?

I'd suggest trying to arrange a new home for them that isn't your home. Like you said, if you took them back to your place, she'd know. Once everything is ready, go get your chickens, and deliver them to their new chook loving person.

Means you'd have to start your flock again from scratch....but it gets them out of her obviously inept hands.

Chickflick i apologise for not congrating you.

Peep, my first instinct would be bodily harm! Next would be a midnight visit... neither of which would probably be actually smart. If you
DO somehow get them as distressing as it is they have to go somewhere else... otherwise you will surely be turned in. Did the others die of predetor or sickness??? She may not be telling you something and they may be contageous... Either way it sucks because the right thing would be to either give them back or tell you... If this was about her saving them from dying at YOUR house it obviously fell flat. Soooo sorry.

As to the pet thing mine are pets too. I don't even eat the eggs half the time. Silly, i know but they get all happy making their clutch, and i lose track of freshness... Sometimes the roos have to be put down or hens re homed and it is/has been agonizing to decide each and every time for 4 years now! Not ashamed to admit to crying over those dang birds. Even the "mean" roos that just could not be tamed. I don't believe i will ever be able to seperate between critters and people... 35 this year and it ain't happened yet!

Speaking of deer heads... I drive by the deer, that DH hit last week, all the time and the other day I realized that someone cut the head clean off and took it. -_- It *was* an impressive animal but still... some people.

Another day is underway. Granny is still sleeping, David hopefully is sitting in my deer blind, and I'm sitting here waiting for time to pass so that I can start my antibiotic infusion at 9am. Egg production has been abysmal but at least it has been sufficient to meet our needs. Some days you have to wonder if it is worth the effort. If I were to buy eggs from the store it would cost about $5 for a months worth of eggs instead of the $45+ that my birds cost me.

However, having your own flock of chickens is about much more than eggs and economics. It's the knowledge that you are providing your family the freshest eggs possible. It's the entertainment brought by watching a flocks antics , the satisfaction of caring for some of nature's creatures, it's how it makes you feel about yourself.

And eggs from your own flock taste waaaaayyyy better than store bought! ;) I'm sorry you're dealing with what you are Opa, but glad to hear you're managing and hanging in there.

I heard a story yesterday from a very reliable source. A COUGAR sighted/ possibly photographed in Shiawassee Co.

Chickflick... Lol. I hardly use my touchpad any more with BYC. Lol. There have been several ACs that got me in trouble forinnapropriate language. Yup. Lol

Cut the head off? Well why not... Maybe they were making sure it wouldn't come back as a zombie. Lol

As I forgot to mention, we do also have 4 chickens at our house right now. The ones we have now were chicks when this all went down.

We were a sliver away from having her watch them, but they were 3 weeks old at the time and we knew we could probably finish in time.

Still, the 4 we don't have all mean a lot. That's why we are trying to get them back.
