Did you add the ACV to your bucket? Or you can add a teeny tiny bit of bleach, allow it to sit for like half hour and then offer it. I just wipe out with vinegar and then add vinegar, 1/4cup per gallon, good for the birds anyway.

Can you explain the Moebius thing to me in plain English? I watched a cast-on video by Cat Bordhi, made my head spin. But I love how she talks and names her stitches! LOL

Been there, smelled that!
It can come and go....or might need to shock and flush all the pipes/tanks.

Oooo! now i'm gonna have to try this! I don't get any scum in the winter, but i do get some in the summer if i use them; i usually switch to stainess or porcelain though after the water can't freeze anymore.

That was my thought, or having possibly been strictly cage-raised until you bought her. Nothing you can do, she's too old for correction. If it isn't hurting her let her live it out.

Hmmm....well it sure doesnt bother her. Shes almost 6 months old and I first noticed it a couple moths ago. I bought her as a day old from Meyer Hatchery....so shes never been in a cage. Ah well...... just curious Thanks

This link is AWESOME, thanks. I have been having this issue with the water for just ONE of my faucets...my bathroom sink.

I use them for the rabbits, chickens, and goats but have never had that. I have had green algae in the summer. It may be the water supply with the heater helping it to grow. Why, in home systems that utilize shallow wells with bladder tanks the "black scum" is fairly common adhering to the rubber liner. In some cases, later on, when you open high volume faucets, like a tub, it may come out and is gross looking. Jacuzzi type tubs are notorious for this as the water sets in the pipes and black scum forms. Check your water system.

that reminds me of what I had this summer used a white hose and one of those lime green kink free, had gross algae, never had that before with the old hose

Good info everyone, thanks! I'm sure my issue is in there somewhere. We do have a sulfur-smelling water too. It comes and goes. I've just never had this particular slime and sediment before, even in the summer. Usually our algae issues are green or reddish-brown and do not stink at all. This stuff was really smelly and the fact that the water was foamy within hours of cleaning the bowl and refilling was strange. Plus it was hard to see the black slime and sediment in the black bowl and I feel guilty that I didn't realize it sooner. Like I said, I'm just emptying and refilling the water as it freezes now - ditching the heater. So far it seems fine. They've stopped going crazy over the snow on my shoes and started drinking out of the bowl again so hopefully they're okay with it now and no one was affected.
