Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Tonight's forcast for cokpersville : 9. 9!!!:-[

They keep dropping the temps in the forecast. Brrr! Brought my horses in early as it's too cold in the wind with them shedding. Even my minis were eager to go to their stalls and they still have heavy coats.

Good news is my porch chicks are getting good about being caught and put in the carrier at night. It's funny to seem them come out in the am - no panic, just the march of chicks. Must remember to video it tomorrow - it's pretty funny!

I have maintained for years that there are no bad days, only bad attitudes. There are many days that I don't like, but as long as I can do something then the day isn't bad. Often you have to make adaptations in order to get something done but isn't that what life really is. Looking at what befalls you and thing doing what ever is necessary to get through it.

I thought this picture pretty well sums up that attitude

I agree with you wholeheartedly!....loved the picture although it brought tears to my eyes

Hi everyone! I was wondering if there is anyone who is near Lapeer, MI who might have 1/2 dozen SILKIE hatching eggs I could buy?

My bantam hen Nina, (that is her in my avatar), just went broody again and I have tentative permission from my family to let her hatch a few silkies!

I have always wanted to try silkies, and what better way than hatching them with a hen! I would really like to get them by this weekend if at all possible, so I can count them for the Easter Hatch-a-long.

ANYONE???

TSC in Ortonville just got shavings. Looks like today! We brought home 4 bags. They had cheap chicks too. A bin full of bantams too.

For those worried about heating your babies, I only give heat for two weeks. At 4-5 weeks they've been feathered enough to go outside when the weather is above freezing at night. A few weeks ago I put a group outside when the temps were in the 40's. When it got cold again we just closed them in and gave them an upside down box to huddle up in. They've done great! Totally acclimated to this current cold spell. What I've noticed is when they don't have heat for as long, they feather more quickly.

My poor showgirl hen had been sitting on the eggs for almost 5 weeks now, and all the eggs were bad, I felt sorry for such a dedicated hen, so I went to the Sparta Elevator and brought 5 newly hatched fuzzy chicks for her. :D

Great idea, I'll bet she was thrilled.
