Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Yes, west coast certainly does cover dozens of towns! Since I'm new here, I don't want to break any rules or social norms. Some groups don't like to be anywhere near specific when talking about where they are located. I didn't know if this community was like that or not.

Besides, without being able to show you my hand to point out my location, how else can I explain it? LOL

Anyone in the Howell area needing poultry equipment might want to stop by my friends garage sale; cages, waterers, incubators, bird netting, and more. He is located on Crooked Lake rd west of Chilson rd.

I always get a chuckle when folks say they live Up North - and are hours south of here in St. Ignace. And you can get even more north from here!

My mom was once horrified to see a Coopers hawk take a sparrow from her bird feeder. I told her she was still feeding the birds, just bigger ones. Mindy, you will love the peace of mind a covered run offers you. Just as now I can happily watch the fox that has been visiting my yard, secure in the knowledge that my birds are safe due to the effort put in to secure their runs.

Found a very odd egg today.

Collected while still warm. The shell was about an inch away from the intact yolk and membrane.
Certainly the oddest egg I've ever come across.

Having the contents of a soft shell egg separate for the shell is fairly common. The egg's soft shell adheres to what ever it is setting on. Then the slightest movement tears the shell and expels the contents.

Anyone looking for a hatcher? We went to a farm in Canton in April and picked up some free eggs. I got 4 goose and 1 duck out of the hatch. The first 3 were named and are currently spoiled rotten! The other 2 geese were sold.

Well, I love hatching so much, that we went back to the farm and received 6 duck eggs. They have currently internally pipped and should be here in about 2-3 days. I love hatching them! But, I can't keep them. I would love to be a hatcher for anyone interested.

I only feed organic duckling food, gro gel, natural seaweed and water the first 2 weeks to ensure optimum health. I start bathtub baths at 4 days old in warm water for 5-8 minutes, increasing each day by 1-2 minutes. I use the brinsea warmers, not heat lamps and we snuggle each night with the babies for about an hour. They will be kid and people friendly :) I also feed organic spring leaves from the grocery store and kale. We take daily walks and they eat all the bugs, weeds and mud they want to. I love raising them, I just can't keep them :(

I will eventually be trying to find a home for my original 3, 2 geese and a duck in August. I would love for them to go somewhere where we can come and visit and bring treats and they won't be slaughtered.

I was thinking of calling Kensington or Hess Hathaway in August. I love these guys so much!

Depends on your location. I would love to add geese to my flock. Non slaughter home here.

I have 2 salid bars in my run, they are all based on this design, http://www.fresh-eggs-daily.com/2012/05/diy-chicken-salad-bar-giveaway-from-my.html?m=1

In one of them I planted chickweed, https://www.horizonherbs.com/product.asp?specific=408

In the other I planted a cut and cut again mix from Nichols Nursery, https://www.nicholsgardennursery.com/store/product-info.php?pid758.html
I am currently in the process of making a salad bar in my new pea pen. So far I've got cilantro (?) and kale up. I've got spinach and baby bok choi planted. But I was planning on making the frame out of 1 x 6"'s and topping it with 1 x 1" wire, letting them graze on the greens as they came through the wire and hoping they couldn't pull the plants out. Is there a reason this won't work?

It makes it a lot easier if people aren't afraid to say what area they are from. I'm not sure what they are afraid of other than maybe some of us are "illegal". Anyway its up to the poster whether or not they want to give their location.

Sounds like you are down by Detroit. How far are you from Millington?
