Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

I went to collect eggs at noontime and 3 of my hens are starting to molt quite a bit. I noticed it last week, but wow, what a difference a day makes. They look pitiful and it's just beginning.:(
I've got some girls that started molting in the past couple of weeks, I'm confused, I thought chickens only molted in the fall? I have 1 hen that started her molt in the fall, but never grew the feathers back in over the winter. She is now losing more hmm....

Anyone going to any events that the Michigan Bird and Game Breeders Association is putting on?
I usually go to Imlay city and Montrose, I'll be looking for the lime green with the cameo hat guy. Cutlers will be there and if you want a high shipping item, I think they'll bring it so you can pick it up.

Well the good news was that all 11 hens laid an egg today.
Less good is that a BA looks like she wants to go broody.
The not-so-good news is that they want to do open heart on me.
I need a beer.
Good luck with the surgery, you should be rarin to go by spring.

I only have one doe for sure bred, she is BIG as a barn!!! She is round as she is long! Anyone care to guess how many Myrtle is baking??? I guess she still have a few more weeks to go! Poor gal.

I have been tapping our maple trees too! 23 trees, got 19 gallons of sap so far!

OMG, she's huge. I'll say 2.

Sorry Raz - and did they tell you no beer? Otherwise, well...
No,No,NO beer is the new health food. Gotta have it.

Chris - I got home safe & sound and got Beatrice and her buddy (not yet named) secured for the night. They weren't overly happy with me or the ride. I think I've got more snow & ice than you do still & I know I've got more mud. Lucky me

It's amazing what people can find to complain about. The recent photo of the newborn baby cradled in the American flag for instance.

Personally I found it to be very touching and symbolic. A great representation of what we veterans served for, our country and our children. To me it demonstrated that our children should be protected (cradled) by the country the flag represents.

How is this disrespectful? You see Olympic athletes with our flag draped over their shoulders yet you hear no complaints. I wonder if the complaints were because it showed a military person as well? I wonder how many of those who found fault have actually served or is all they give our nation is lip service?

Wow. I think it is a nice photo as well. Hmm.

So other birds are molting? One of my new dove's feathers have all started falling out :( as in bald patches on head and all. No one else, the boy she was with for a bit and her daughter look fine. I see pins so hoping it is merely a hard molt. I have been putting my tame boy in there at nights since if it were bugs he'd let me see. My chickens have not started yet.

I use manna pro poultry conditioner pellets during molt, feather fixer is said to be good as well. Helps them get through it easier, it takes a lot out of them making all those feathers! My doves are getting quiko egg food as a side supplement. I am looking into a primarily crumb diet, and using seeds on the side since they toss 80% of the seeds out of the dish. Chickens like birdseed treats as well; another molting help is to feed black oil sunflower seeds. I cheat and feed the blends with them in it; all seeds have fat and protien. That and the feather conditioner. Birds feathers have a pullet sheen, even the 5 yr old gal! She still lays eggs too.

No knowing the goat i would saw twins, but they can surprise you. We had one girl give triplets and i would have sworn up and down she only had a single, on the other hand our 7yrs old doe who always gives twins only gave a single. It was an odd year for kids here, two of our first years had twins which isnt normal either.

That is a beautiful pic, and so meaning full, there are many that will look at that and see a pro-life statement.
