Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Just a reminder about the warming and thawing temperatures we are starting to see. Along with the melt there can be an increase in humidity both outside and within the coop. Combined with cool temperatures at night your chickens might get hit with some frostbite.

I checked on my birds last evening just before dark while they were all on the roost bar, I noticed that a couple of them had early frostbite on their combs. I blame myself for not being as diligent the days before my procedure.

We owe it to the animals under our care to give them the best care that we possibly can. Enjoy your day.

Said to say it but Zack passed away this morning.  I think even if he was still around this morning we was probably going to take him to the vet.  :(

Dug a grave for him in mom's flower garden, where some of our other dogs are at.  Hit a little bit of frost digging down, but not really a rock hard frost.

Aww, I'm sorry about your pup.

Hi everybody. I've been lurking and learning here for awhile but I thought it was time to say hi

. I've got a mixed backyard flock of 2 araucana, 1 easter egger, 1 Amber white, 1 barred rock, 2 buff Orpington and a Wyandotte rooster. I'm getting some meat birds this summer. I think the roo will be going for a ride with those meat birds this summer. His new nickname is stew

. Anyway I just thought I would introduce myself. Oh and I'm sure you guessed but I'm a Yooper from near escanaba.
Hahaha! That sounds like my group last year. We named the rooster Stew as well. Stew became a wonderful chicken soup (ok, more like 2). Welcome! :)
