Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Good morning all! I get to drive across state (From Muskegon to Detroit) this morning for a semi annual neuropsych eval for my ASD child. It's a "school needs to quit this BS fighting with us because he is so high functioning" type of thing as well as a "so high functioning there is no help, but he needs some help" type of thing. So this gives us some direction besides what we get by networking with other parents.

I have chicks in my heated garage! Our first batch of meat birds ever! Any tips on raising meat birds? They are cornish cross. I was thinking of doing a second batch if this one turns out well. Fill a freezer up with chicken. The school is using my incubator to hatch us some egg layers after Spring break and some quail. This shall be an interesting year.

Feed flock raiser! You will have less fat and jucier meat vrs using 24%.
A friend and I got yelled at by tye processer for the birds being too big for the machine. We had to pay a extra .25 cents to go into the turkey process machine.
To me thats a huge compliment!

The above blog questions the secrecy of the GAAMP committees and how their decisions affect every citizen in the state. Even those who don't raise backyard chickens.
"We are not attorneys, and can't judge the legal validity of Mr. Deacon's argument."

They (MSFC) certainly should have a lawyer to confer with.......
.....this fight won't be won without someone who knows the law and loopholes.

Little Building Project for the day..been thinking about this for a year, finally worked out the details and executed!
Added small sliding (to adjust size) doors in this 'wall' that is the bottom of the coop partition wall (seen in the left of the second photo). It will allow chicks to go in and out (but not larger birds) of the main coop, hopefully speeding and smoothing integration of new birds into the main flock.
Time will tell if it will work as planned.

I plucked a leaf from one of the trees and tossed it in some warm water for a while. Here's what it looked like once it wasn't crispy anymore

I just got to meet @eatwhatyougrow in person. Great guy! It's always fun to meet fellow chicken people in person!
I also have met some on here in real life- in my own town no less. I love chicken people.

Interesting story about a farmer in NY that is under attack from an animals rights aspect.
There is lots out there about this, but this blog capture some details and the essence of it.
Not quite a right to farm issue, but close.
