Forty years ago today, the Witch of November came for the Edmund Fitzgerald.
Does anyone know where the love of God goes When the waves turn the minutes to hours? The searchers all say they'd have made Whitefish Bay If they'd put fifteen more miles behind her They might have split up or they might have capsized They may have broke deep and took water And all that remains is the faces and the names Of the wives and the sons and the daughters
So what have I missed while I've been gone this summer? ...or I suppose I could go read back through the last 1000+ posts. Um, nah.
I was cleaning out my den/office (aka: storage room) this past weekend & came across my incubator. **sigh** Man I miss that. However, I have 2 (seemingly decent) boys right now, finally. A Welsummer & a golden laced Wyandotte. Hopefully one of them will be up to snuff enough by spring that I can finally incubate eggs again!! (woot woot).
Now that I can finally sex my youngest group of purebred Araucanas, I may sell a pair or two. Still mulling it over. I want to keep all the girls I have, but there are two great roosters with a lot of potential I don't want wasted, either (double tufted and rumpless, correct leg color, nice pea combs). But what is a nice rooster without a nice girl to be paired with, so he doesn't go to waste?
Never done it before....they were not happy, one got away from me and knocked another off the roost(she got back up there tho).
It's HARD to hold bird with one hand on your lap and try to part feathers around the vent with the other.
No one to help...might have to dream up a standing height table with a cradle and/or restraints or something.
One thing I learned tho, it's good to handle your birds a lot when young and occasionally when older,
the only ones that really fought it were the 3 broody raised pullets that had never been handled at all.
10 down(5 last night, 5 tonite) 5 more to go tomorrow night.
OK, I feel a little better, sigh, thanks for listening....I know chicken folks understand.
We've been so busy here the last 6 months. We've been cleaning out my Dad's place since he finally moved into an apartment closer to me. Working full time with three busy boys has made it tough to find down time. I injured my calf muscle, so here's my down time.
Opa I hope you heal well. My husband's Grandmother had a stroke many years ago and she fully healed. I hope you get as many deer as you can handle. If we lived a little close, I'd send my son over to learn the art of dressing a deer. He'd love to go hunting and get one.
My hens are back to laying pretty good again. My co workers are happy they can get eggs from me.
