Got out there and dug a path out around the coop, and had to salt it with meal worms to get them to come out any. Pretty sure I don't have to worry much about the girls wondering too far today.

String-type netting such as this, although I have also seen chicken wire called poultry netting

That's what my netting looks like. We got 3 inches last night of sticking snow, but it all fell thru, yay!

In Howell we got hammered by the snow. I measured 17" at 10pm last night. Had the ground been cold before it started snowing we'd have even more accumulation. When it first started snowing quite a bit melted before it started to build up.

A friend gave me enough poultry netting to cover my 16' x 16' run several years ago but warned me about the sag potential as the previous winter he lost over 100 pheasants that were trapped under the snow laden mesh.

I solved that problem by installing a center pole that is 6' higher than the fence. I then installed 16 rafters running up to the top of the center pole. The first year I'd knocked the snow off and would then shovel out the run. In the years since I tarp the top and sides so the birds have somewhere to go and I don't have to shovel.

Sounds like a great plan Opa, would love to have covered runs. 17" of snow in one day, yikes so glad we didn't get it here lol :gig

We are doing the "got no snow" happy dance up here!

Nice picture/article Raz

The chicken world has been quiet since I shipped off the bunch of boys. DH brought me home an 8x14' shed for another coop. I simply wanted to use an old camper as a temporary coop so my Polish could grow out their crests but DH never goes the simple route.

The newest bird is an inside guy. We/my son recently adopted an Arican Grey (Buzz) and have been busy with him. He's loud but fits in with the chickens, Guinea and Call ducks. I love the sounds DH not so much. I've threaten him I'm going to get Buzz to learn the Guinea sounds so they can't be escaped!

Oh and sadly no deer.

DH got a deer license, but hasn't been out. Once! I want venison in the freezer, but not enough to sit out there in the cold. We will be getting some from the grandson-in-law, who's done really well this season. Good for him! Snow is lovely, but later would have been much better. Still getting ready for winter, and it's arrived. Darn! Mary
