That's really cool. I have 4 barnevelder pullets right now and one is about 4 weeks older than the others. She panics when one gets out of the brooder, they all sleep practically underneath her and I had this thought yesterday that I'd wager she'll be a good Mama after looking after these other ones.Quote:

That's the best advise IMO. As a shipboard Engineer I was also certified as a Metrologist to calibrate meters and gauges. Thermometers are tricky. However, using ice/water mixture, and at boiling, will help you know if you are in the ballpark "at that set-point".. It won't tell you if the devise is accurate at other points though. Your advise to buy a quality thermometer is the best bet.That's about all you can do, except get a better quality one - Brinsea's Spot Check is well worth the cost.
