I have some serious chick fever. Can't decide if I should add chicks that will be good dependable layers, or try to add more color to my egg supply

One of these days we should all just show up at court one day with something silly like some cheap duck calls with us. Keep on quacking whenever they put another BS charge on you. That might finally get you some Media attention and have one of the local news outfits start doing some digging in on your story and showing the world just how far Garden City has gone to screw you over for chickens.
You'll have an opportunity on Feb 7 and again on Feb 8.

I say add egg color first (that's likely what you really want?, and then breed for production after you already have the colors.

First muscovy eggs of the season were gotten today and yesterday! Yay! As soon as I get rid of two extra females I've got on CL I'll help them get settled and go to town. I'd let them set sooner, but I don't want to be overrun! Which is not a terrible problem to have considering they are wonderful, healthy, happy meat birds.

I love spring like weather, however I hate what it does to both the coop and the birds behavior. I cleaned out and replaced wet pine shavings but had to use a bucket because the ground was bare and the tractor would have torn up the yard. Then I had four plucked polish, two bloodied that I had to blue kote. One rooster had the other by the head. The Guineas were chasing the turkeys and the turkeys were chasing hens and then a hen refused to let the ducks in the coop. They do fine when stuck in the coop in cold weather and then start fighting the minute there is nice weather. Birds are crazy. Oh and only three girls out of 50+ are laying.
