Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

I agree aart
As pleasant as this weather is, it is more than likely will have below freezing temps yet this season .
I recall about 5ish years ago, the fruit trees froze from a February thaw before a frigid cold snap in March.
They had to import cherries & other produce for the Traverse City cherry festival that year.

Thinking about going to TSC tomorrow for a few odds and ends. Kinda hoping that they don't have chicks in yet. Not really on planning doing chicks this year due to Amy and me moving in together soon. Just going to be too much right right now to deal with chicks. Maybe pick up some pullets at chickenstock perhaps.

Just keep telling yourself that....over and over cheepcheepcheep and over and over.
Best of cLuck!

I'm going there this week, and hope to NOT bring home any chicks! I'm deliberately not setting up the brooder yet either. I'll be separating the flock into breeding groups this weekend, and then waiting three weeks for good eggs to hatch, and broody hens. The Freedom Rangers are coming in early April. Wish I could avoid going to TSC!!! Mary

I'll be firing up the bator soon too...
......that makes it easier really easy to not buy chicks at TSC or the Mill.

Recently relocated from Redford Michigan on up to Scottville Michigan. What a good trade! My girlfriend ( companion for life) lives in Free Soil )grant twp.). We have 2 coops and have had over 35 chickens within both. Now that I have my own home up here, I will be building my own coop and bringing chickens from one residence to my own. I have been working with specific breeds for over 5 years now. I finally learned that utility breeding seems to be the roots I sink my teeth in when it comes to raising chickens. I have enjoyed being a member of BYC for a long time and am glad to participate in your thread. If there is anything I can share, I am your neighbor, so just ask!

Well, I was right to fear going to the TSC in Saline today. They got their first shipment of chicks in today. Just a big bunch of Buff Orpington pullets was all they had. And there was somebody else there that was pretty close to getting some themselves. I stayed strong and resisted the urge. That and since I got buffs last year I would clearly need something different next.
