Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Working in the coop today. Cleaning and reorganizing the layout. It's actually in pretty decent shape. The floor is dry bedding but I'm pulling it out since I started, Poop boards are doing the job as they are supposed to.
I hung one of those vanilla tree air fresheners and it really does keep the flies out of the coop. All I need is a Lazy-Boy chair and a TV and the coop would be an excellent man cave.

Visited the Williamston TSC today, and managed to escape without any chicks. HOWEVER, they had Penedesencas, and some very cute grayish chipmunk colored mystery chicks, from Privett. I'm a sucker for the mystery ones, but didn't get any. Today, at least. Check them out at your peril! Also Light Brahmas, buff Orphingtons, and Barred Rocks.

My injured pullet is fully integrated into the flock now. She is the lowest on the pecking order, but at least they are not harassing her much.
Now I have to get a few of them ready for the county fair next week. Never done it before, but my daughter is trying showmanship for the first time. She is 8, so should be fun to watch. I don't have show quality birds, but at least they give you tickets for bringing in animals.

So who requested the cold? It was 49 degrees here last night.

There was nothing good about the first day of August...Lakota, the devil dog, harassed a skunk last night. Not a full spray but enough residue on him he can carry. Damn dog! At least I know where the den is. Under a bunk of lumber behind the garage. Just another chore for me to do before going to work. :barnie

Love the cooler weather, especially at night!
Yesterday I donned one of the disposable hazmat suits from HD, and got after some of the poison ivy that's taken over the place. It's worth it to not get the rash, and there's so much here I'll be at it quite a while.
The only time I've wished for goats!

Cool is 60 degrees. The lowest setting on my thermostat. August nights should never be in the 40's and my furnace should NOT be kicking on in August.
Cut up a nice ash tree today before work. 68 16 inch logs hauled out of the woods. They need to be split yet but they will make a nice hot fire come the real cold season. Maybe I should burn one tonight just to get warm. :duc< Me, shivering.

ETA. Put the forks on the tractor and moved the bunk of wood that the skunk was living under. I hope it has moved on but the aroma stills lingers in the soil and wood. I just hope it wasn't to under the hen house.
