Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Could just be full of water from the hot days.

This is how I check crop function:
I isolate bird in a wire cage within the coop for a day or two....so I can closely monitor their intake of food and water, crop function(checking at night and in morning before providing more feed), and their poops. Feel their abdomen, from below vent to between legs, for squishy or hard swelling. Check for external parasites or any other abnormalities.

Best to put crate right in coop or run so bird is still 'with' the flock.
I like to use a fold-able wire dog crate (24"L x 18"W x 21"H) with smaller mesh(1x2) on bottom of crate under tray.
Then you can put tray underneath crate to better observe droppings without it being stepped in. If smaller mesh is carefully installed, tray can still be used inside crate.
Thank you @aart! Appreciate your help.

@aart Thanks again for the info yesterday. This morning her “hot water bottle” was completely normal. She’s been drinking more water these days along with the others I’m sure due to the humidity and temps but looks like we are all good!
It’s going to be a scorcher today and hope everyone stays cool.

That was a heck of a storm that rolled through a little while ago. Lightening strike very close to the house. I thought a power pole got hit. I could feel the charge inside the house. Pole was intact and I didn't lose power so all is good. It sure scared the animals though.

Right now it is that eerie calm. Not a lick of breeze. And it's dead silent. No critter sounds from the woods. No bird song. Even the chickens are quiet. I do love a good storm.

Everything is fine here. I didn't even lose power. All animals weathered the sudden storm. Received 3/4 inch of rain in a short time. Now it is a picture-perfect day. There is a golden quality of the light. It really enhances the green colour of the trees. So many hues to enjoy. I love living here.
