Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Also decided that I'm going to get chicks. I'm wondering if it'd be cheaper to build a coop or just buy one somewhere
It depends on what you are going to do. If you have ducks and chickens, I like to house them separately. I bought an old heavy coop from Opa for the ducks and because we breed chickens, I like the smaller resin ones. I use dog kennel fencing for the runs for them during the day in between the times they get to free range. All of our runs are covered. Still need to get Brett to take pictures for you @Dreamzchaser

Buckeyes... I hear they are a hairless nut?
Mine are feathered. Brown feathers and tan eggs. Go brown and tan. :lau

A college education is a lifetime commitment. Meaning that you'll pay for it for the rest of your life. :(

Not sure exactly why June was picked for Chicken Stock. It was a perfect time for swapping birds though. Chicks were ready to be moved outside so new homes were easy transitions. It was also a great time for trading trading plants too. Later on, people ran into conflicts of time with weddings and graduations. Then we had that bird-flu thing about 3 years ago. Some of our old regulars got out of chicken keeping. Then the Covid thing last year. Organizing an event like this is often difficult to coordinate. Especially when it is done on a volunteer basis. It was usually just a few people with the time to commit to the organization. Many thanks to those who got it done in the past. I hope we can get it going again. It was a great event.

I'm new too. I think it's a potluck get together and people bring stuff to sell/trade. And since there's food, we would eat. And talk and laugh. I'm sure bringing pictures is mandatory. But since phones are now cameras, that's easy to do.
IT is all that, plus games - Chase the Loose Chicken is a big favorite. And a gift swap - all kinds of great stuff, including arts, plants, foodstuff (mm Maple Syrup!) And birds to swap/sell/give away.

All 5 of my girls laid an egg today!!! That’s the first time. Farrah was “suppose” to lay blue eggs, but it was more like a dull grey/green. I’ll take it. What a treat to see discover today:)

Have a nice weekend everyone

I'm sure hubby will want to go to NC sooner rather than later, because of the heat. I know he wants to go to Pittsburgh too, but no timeline.

If a Chickenstock date is picked, I will work to plan around that. So far, other than some glorious day in June (TBD) when I go to Gladwin to get chicks, there is nothing written on my calendar. Any weekend works for me. So far. :thumbsup
NC? do tell ! My mom lives south of Asheville. vacation planning?

Chickenstock sounds super awesome! I'm looking forward to going.

I just arrived at my brothers house in Indiana. I haven't seen him in 3 weeks :( He is for real my best friend it broke my heart when he moved away from home. I try to see him once a week as much as I can. Maybe even bring him to chickenstock too! He'll think it's a little cooky only cause he's used to me being "spontaneous" but I'm sure he'll love being there.

Hi Ladies, Hope you all had a nice day! I had babysitting duties today. my best friend from church had to work past the time to pick up her children and I am their emergency contact and she asked me to pick them up. I picked them up and then took them to a park to release some energy and then took the home and in a few minutes, their mom showed.
Came home and the girls are fine. Sophia, my little one had a little of pasty butt again. So I cleaned her. However, Phoebe, the yellow and biggest one is a number. She is definitely the one that calls the shots. If anyone gets in the little rooster, she comes and peck them down. I sat on a chair just watching and she looks at me with an attitude. Yeap! A total attitude. She even came closer and jump on top of the feeder and then on top the edge of the mirror putting her just about 3" from the edge and just looked at me. She already thinks is Puertorican :lau

Anyways, tomorrow I will be up early to do my Bible studying/reading/prayer time and then out to fix an area where the shed will be and begin with the coop area.
I kind of miss you all and all the fun here.
@Mary, I have placed myself in every list possible and funny, the one that got announcement that they have received vaccines, the site tells me that they do not serve my state. They were drunk because I have about 4 rite-aid drug store around and I know many in Muskegon and Muskegon Heights.

Anyways, @michelle, I know about the pictures and I understand it takes time. I have not even try to figure my computer either.

Everyone, have a good night and stay safe. 😘😘😘
