Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

They spray BT at low levels. The BT is a non-selective substance that poisons the Gypsy moths....and every other caterpillar in the area.
Better Bt than other insecticides.
I thought Bt was selective, considering it's different strains.

Oh yeah! I'm loving this heat. My weather station says it is 86 degrees 39% humidity, with a nice breeze of 12 - 15 MPH. What a beautiful day.

There are millions of gypsy moth caterpillars all over the place. I have yet to see a chicken eat one. I wonder if the caterpillars are somehow distasteful to the chickens. Does anyone know?

There's a stiff west wind here. (Dang, shoulda done laundry. Nah, went to get chicks instead.) When I was in the coop, I could feel it blowing in under the roof on the addition. While it feels nice in the heat, it makes me think I'll need to put some baffle material there come fall. It's about even with the roost.

Multiple feed and water stations, placed as far part as possible with some visual barriers between them.
Do they have feed available at all times they are awake?

Yes, they do outside. Inside is too small. I only have a dog crate that I once had inside with the little girls but this bird is huge and will barely fit there. Outside, I can have her secluded in a big pen but once night comes, I would not dare to leave her outside. Prefer to bring her inside the house even if she crows bloody murder at night. However, she has come down some. I think she is a HE. She pecked at a few and then I sat to just watch and right before pecking, did like a little dance. That seemed to me like a mate ritual. I may be wrong. She is in the pen during the day and goes into the crate at night. She spills the food and water almost immediately. So, she has to wait until morning. I tried everything that I can. Finally today the run is starting because that orange crap is no good. They always find a way to escape out and I do not feel it is secure enough for any of them.

It is so freaking HOT!!!! I left Florida for the heat and here is the same! Where is the Love! Sorry but I dislike heat and that I sweat. It makes me cranky I guess! Anyways, X wanted to do the gate in front of the house and asked him if he could finish what has been started and he began on the run next to the coop. He is using all that can be found and used that is wood material. Funny, I show him a picture of a coop and he says, I can do that. The outcome is completely different from picture. Gave him a picture of a run, and it is for sure looking different from the picture. Oh, well! I do not want to be thought of ungrateful. I just would have liked if told that it can be done with changes and it would not let me get my expectations so high.
So, in the meantime, I kicked everyone out and finished painting the ceiling, secured the lamp, added a fan ( so hot is worthless) and gave them treats. I do not have any pictures but will get some tomorrow and them post.

Cannot wait for the new pic of Sally's chicks.
