Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

How long do you keep the littles separated at night from the bigs? I’m afraid of them getting massacred if I let them sleep on the big roost. The big girls are pretty aggressive in the morning and the pullets are just under 7 weeks.
Am I going too fast?
I thought you had a separate section in the coop for them?
Maybe I can't keep the stories straight  CRS.

Yes, I would keep them separated at night.

They have the black pack n play on the ground. I’m hoping to get the area under the nest box covered w HC tomorrow. They will definitely have more room in there than the PNP. I’m afraid of the Grand Rapids chicken massacre if I let them mingle too soon. It’s time to upgrade their sleeping arrangement for sure. Shocking how big and independent they are becoming.

Hi Everyone! Hope you are all enjoying the weekend and the heat. I am being miserable with the heat. I showed you before the steps that I began inside the coop for the girls. Well, yesterday and today, I took it apart and re-made it. Nothing fancy and still have to paint it but it is too hot outside and where I cut the wood was right under the sun.

So for the time being, since I do not have a run nor small door for them to go out, I put the old temporary roost they had even if it is blocking the door. The fan is also in there and it is on high.

For sure I need to put more sand in the coop but even in the plain linoleum, it is easy to clean. But I will put more.
Also I did another temporary fix because I have no clue. I figure it will have to be on the outside and having to put a frame, which I have no clue on how to, but will worry closer to winter. It can stay open for now until then. There is no way for me to close or open like this but as the heat arrises, predators get crazy and need to help my girls the best I can.

However, XH asked me, "What about if it rains? Good question. I guess that I will lean that outside umbrella against the window if it happens. Any suggestions on this?

By the way, Phoebe is no longer a sweetheart. She got her consequence for flying out. I cut part of one wing. She still can fly but not that high. She has become a rebel, And this morning Rachel gave me another egg. She was laying those tiny eggs every other or 2 days but it has been 3 days in a row that she lays before 9am. :love SHe is my big mamma!
