I keep forgetting steps. I forgot to sterilize the jars. I've never done this myself; only ever helped other people. Now, how do I get the jars out of the canner, filled, and back in... this was a lot easier with two canners like my mom had. It will probably come back to me when I actually start doing it. Each step has so far. I've done all the steps many times- just long ago.

You will be fine. For me, what I did was to write on a small post it nore the steps and keep it by my stove inside the cabinet. All I have to do is open teh cabinet and all is in there.

I forgot the dollop of vinegar in the lid-sterilizing water and in water in the canned.

Otherwise, so far, so good.

Well, I manage to get outside to water the garden and meassured the place where the greenhouse is going (10' by 20') And right next to the chickens, well, towards the back side, I measured an area kind of like this and meassures:

The 20' is the size of the back of the chicken run. Then where the 8' is kind of encasing a shed that is not even up and should have been moved but has not been move and might never be moved,

so, I think it gives me roughly an average of 70sqft? 536sqft? I have no clue. I can only do squares or rectangles,

Would that be enough for 17 ducks?

5x8=40, 13x15=195, 40+195=235

Your space is 235 square feet.
I don't know how much space ducks need.

I have one of the Ball canning books. Every year I make myself READ the directions, even though I know how to do it. I have also written a bunch of notes in it that remind me of details like "big white bowl full X 2 = 7 qts of tomatoes," and "1 bu approx = 21 qts tomatoes."

In other news: DH is retired now! He will available to work part time, if they need him. He is also "coming out of retirement" to help with an install at the National Football Hall of Fame in a couple weeks.

@troyer Looking very solid and healthy. Good. I do see the horn turn. We have one like that. The others all grew curved back.

I'm not kidding (no pun intended). I have two beautiful doeling (twins) Mini-Toggenburgs that would make excellent pets and could be bred later. I hope they stay together. And I have twin Nigerians, doeling and buckling. They are best separated unless one wanted to wether the buckling. All will have horns. We stopped disbudding years ago.

On a sadder note my first Goat on the farm, Shirley Sweet, passed on last week and is now a permanent "pasture" pet. We will always have a soft spot in out hearts for her.
