Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

And snow coming...
And colder temps. I'm not complaining, as I know much of the country has had a HORRIBLE time this winter. I'm just doing a little "pre-worrying" about the birds. They won't be used to it.

And they better not use it as an excuse for not laying! Sheesh! I know at least 3, and maybe 4 birds have laid eggs since they first got off hiatus in early December. But Stormy is the only one laying now. Two eggs every three days. No signs of illness or being egg bound. Combs are all nice and plump and red, except for one girl. Stormy is the only one I've seen in the nests in the past couple weeks.

Come on, ladies! We've added about 38ish minutes of daylight since the solstice.

And... the cheap eggs went up another 30 cents from last week. $5.09/dozen. Next time I'm at Meijers, I'll see what the premium eggs go for.

Some of the squirrels around here have a bit of mange. I'll have to keep a close eye on my dogs and also check poultry for mites. I've been lucky here. This is supposed to be a heavy tick and flea area. But since I moved here I've only found one tick on Bella. Birds have been mite free every year so far. The worst pest I've had has been those prickly burrs that snag on clothes and fur. Those weeds get pulled on thrown in the fire ring.

It is supposed to be a big snow day here today and tomorrow. I'm not seeing it. There isn't enough snow to even sweep off the porch. Barely enough to cover the mud. I'd like to see a significant snow fall. I have to day off and I'm lazy and bored. I should be doing chores but I have no motivation to do anything. Someone give me a kick.

Where is everyone? It's snowing here right now, may get 6" tonight. Winter at last!
Flock Raiser was three months old at TSC this afternoon, so bought Dumor chick starter instead, dated early January, to mix with the FR we have left. Until I can get bags of FR with much better dating!
Our new dog Taylor is doing a bit better, after having a setback Jan. 19th, when he had some dying heartworms/ embolism in a lung. Fortunately didn't need the ER and all that, but his steroid dosage went way up, so lots of leash walking to cope with the drinking/ peeing. Fun!
Leash walking only until probably March, definitely not my favorite winter activity...
But he's a really nice dog!
Mary
