Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Pickles, that is just because the ground is frozen and the melting snow and rain don't have anywhere to soak in. Take pictures so that you can see where your low spots are, and you can amend those with gravel or increase the elevation so that in the future the water will drain away from the critical areas.

We still have power, thank goodness. We got about 1/8"+ of freezing rain. DH cleared the driveway with the Falcon plow, and man, is that thing a BEAST! I was impressed. Even so, he had to back up and shove the pile out of the way, and the Falcon was working hard to do it.

Saw the ortho doc to get the MRI results. It ain't good. Going to need surgery on elbow and shoulder. He was planning for that when he saw the MRI results but now we have to wait until the bursitis is cleared up. I'm on strong anti-biotics for 10 days and if it is not cleared up then I have to go to hospital for a 24 hour infusion. I hope the pills
I'm a bit behind. Sorry for this setback. Hope the pills work for you, too

After almost 3 years on this website learning about chickens and talking about MI, gardening, and baking, this seems to be the year we will FINALLY be getting chickens!

I bought hardware cloth for the run, and we have some money earmarked for a coop built by some Amish nearby. Compared to building one ourselves, it won't be much more expensive (especially considering that it will be made out of MUCH better materials and made by people who know how to build stuff). I'm very excited, and putting all of my learning into action. Especially focusing on the coop and run and brooder before thinking about getting chicks.
WOOT!!

With my shoulder and elbow so messed up, I can hardly use my left arm. That is getting me down. The infection in my elbow has to be cleared up before we can schedule surgery. It has been a week and doesn't seem any better to me. I go back to the ortho doc in a couple of weeks. I have to see a couple of other specialists in the upcoming weeks. I seem to be falling apart at the seams.
Along with your antibiotics, has the doctor recommended anything like heat? Epsom soaks? Just brainstorming. Maybe call the doctor and see if there's anything more you can do?
Keep in mind that alcohol reduces the benefit of antibiotics

Perfectly miserable day, weather-wise. We've got a bit of ice build-up, again. Hope we don't lose power, again. We have a generator, but I'd like to run my freeze dryer. Guess that will have to wait
