Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

This is absolute proof that teens are crazy. See the black dot in the center of the photo? That's my oldest daughter and her boyfriend harnessed together 183ft in the air waiting to be dropped by what I deem a rubber band. Took this today at MI Adventures. She practically ran for this as soon as we got there. Crazy girl.
I don't think that is crazy at all. I've done it and more...Jumped out of perfectly good airplanes too.
Also jumped off a 30 foot cliff wearing 125 pounds of cave-diving gear, then swam nearly 2 miles to find the exit.
Good times.
Looks like I will have to miss the Northern Chickenstock. Maybe next year, I really, really hope.
It looks like I'll miss it as well. Found out that I have an appointment at 8:30 that will take some time.

Fuzzy, sorry for your loss. I hope you don't give up on the chickens. I'm that way about my dogs... they go way to quickly (mastiffs) but I can't imagine my life without them either.

HillBilly, so sorry your illness is forcing you to get rid of your birds. I hope you get better. Glad you got homes for them all.

I'm going to be thinning out some of my birds soon. Though I love my and silkies and uggo's, I am very rooster heavy! I have 2 hens for 7 roos... So if anyone would like an uggo or silkie roo, let me know. I'd preferr to share the uggos vs culling. I only want to keep one Uggo roo (but which one!!), and the leaky blue silkie. They are maturing and I don't want them to beat up the hens. I'm going to cull most all my faverolles as well. Saving a few of the young hens and maybe the older roo. I spend alot of money on the birds have 15 birds and only get 5-6 eggs a day. It's just not a justifiable expense.. I would like to get some nice laying hens that produce some larger eggs to try to sell vs the small fav's eggs.... I feel guilty selling small eggs.so, I charge less.. when it cost the same to raise large ones I wouldn't feel bad charging the going rate.

At CS 2013, I hope to have some mature Sumatra roos. Waiting on them to fill out to pick a roo and re home the others.

With DH away these 2 wks, I've been getting a bunch of projects done. I had my first go at canning some green beans. Usually DH does all the canning. Later this week, I'll be doing a batch of tomatoes. Got the house cleaned/painted and re arranged furniture! Did a bunch of small projects I've been wanting to do. Have a few more on the list. It's amazing how much you can get done when you don't have anyone trying to direct your time! (always a source of contention) Tomorrow, I have to take the four mastiffs in for a vet apt... yeah that's always a fun one to do alone! (can't wait to see the vet bill). I do my own vacs, but can't do the heart worm or rabies.

SO....I guess that's all that's happening in Wendy's world!

Have a good day everyone!

SOoooo glad we got the rain!!

NOW THAT SOUNDS LIKE FUN!!!!

Hi fellow Michiganders, I'm new to the sight and new to raising birds, I have learned a ton of useful information in the week since I found this sight.
Thanks to all who contribute

Welcome, Cedar714.
We are a pretty friendly group, so jump in when you can. It helps to check often because we tend to be chatty and get off topic a lot.
But we always come back to our shared fondness for all things chicken.
