Thank you for your response - I get my Kent feed at Family Farm and Home store in Flint. I wish the organic feed they have there wasn't so expensive.
Thanks!Prayer for an easy recovery for your DH, Brethren.
Yes the drakes can eat layer also. When I had the ducks before giving the girls to MommaK, I just fed them the flockraiser also.
Just out of curiousity...why do people make oatmeal for chickens...I'm new to the chicken/duck thing, and I'm already finding myself wanting to give them a treat now and then....is it healthy, helps them warm up, just a treat? I'm intrigued (and have a giant container of oatmeal in my cupboard. ;D )So sorry to hear about your DH Brethren! A horrible and stressful situation to say the least! Many of the sporting goods stores (MC Sports, Dunhams, etc) should be starting to carry those side-snap pants since basketball season is almost here. You could call the store and ask about them so that you aren't driving all over the place. Even Walmart and Taget get them from time to time.
Working up the want-to to make a fire in the boiler today. DH turned the propane heat on this morning because the house was down to 65, but that's an expensive way to heat especially when we've got 25+ face-cord just sitting there! Maybe I'll make some oatmeal for the chickens too.
there is a guy near chelsea that is getting rid of 3 beehives... still active w/honey. If anyone's interested let me know.
I JUST got chickens, my dad had them for awhile though, and he was telling me there was a good place to get feed on Baldwin Rd. in Lapeer/Metamora...Starke or Stake brothers farm....something like that...he couldn't remember the exact name, but said they mix it all there...not sure i they grow the stuff too...might be worth checking into though...even if it isn't organic (I don't know if it is or not) it might be more natural.Hi all! I'm from the Genesee County area, does anyone know where I can buy Organic Chicken Feed at a reasonable price? I have 8 laying hens and they are all pets.
I was feeding them Purina Layena but just switched to Kent Home Fresh Extra Egg 16 because it looked like a better feed to me. I would really prefer an organic feed, but the only one I found at Family Farm and Home store was really pricy ($10 more per bag)!
Any thoughts? Or recommendations on the best feed? (Even if its not organic)
I don't really know *why* either, I just know that I've read about people doing it (seeing it pop up a lot with winter discussions) so I decided to make a batch yesterday. They weren't impressed. I halved some grapes and threw them in at the end so they would also be warm, and basically they ate the grapes and barely touched the oatmeal. I don't think I'll be doing it again. Thanks!

Quote: Thanks! I googled that farm and couldn't find anything on Baldwin Rd in Lapeer/Metamora. That's not too far from me so it would be cool to check out. If you hear anything more about it, please let me know!
