My cochin cottage is now cochinless. Sent my six hatchery girls to live with some other bantam cochins and silkies at a farm not far from here. Sounds like she takes good care of her birds. They will be happy to have a rooster again - was ridiculous watching them squat whenever I walked by after our rooster died. Talk about hard up! I really hope these six mottled eggs hatch...

I LOVE acorn squash..don't really love butternut...it always tastes dry...or pasty or something to me. lol! I'm not a picky eater, and I would eat it if someone was serving it, but I just don't love it. :/

I JUST got chickens, my dad had them for awhile though, and he was telling me there was a good place to get feed on Baldwin Rd. in Lapeer/Metamora...Starke or Stake brothers farm....something like that...he couldn't remember the exact name, but said they mix it all there...not sure i they grow the stuff too...might be worth checking into though...even if it isn't organic (I don't know if it is or not) it might be more natural.
Its Howard Stake, I thought I had his phone #, but can't find it. That's where I've been getting feed. He doesn't take credit or debit cards. They are in Lapeer, which is why I didn't mention them, I didn't think you would go that far for feed. His prices are between 1/2 and 3/4 of what the elevator (Millington at least) charge and of course his feed is a lot fresher than the commercial brands.

DH was released from the hospital yesterday afternoon. He has already fallen once this morning using the crutches. The walker seems to be more stable for him to use, but he's a big tuff Marine and really doesn't do well with being less than '100% combat ready.'

I figure I should be gray (or bald) by sometime next week...

Oh, if only my girls were only laying!
my journey to originally (back when I started reading and researching) get 3 brahma girls, somehow turned into me getting 3 ducks, and 5 chickens...none of which are Brahma's!!!! lol!

Lol, enjoyed reading your post. :)

Awwww
DH had an accident at work today.

Holy cow, well wishes for you both. :(
Men can be such babies!

I need to post a comic about this if I remember, I am too tired to find it now.

Feed him lots of Jello!!

BFM... what!?!?
did anybody else grow them this year? I put in 3 lousy seeds and got about 10 big ones and 3 small ones.

I planted, but I did not harvest. :\

Butternut squash is great! Have you ever had butternut soup? DEEELICIOUS!

I've already made giant batches twice this Fall, both times I was silly enough to try freezing half simply because there was TONS of it. It goes fast! I will post that recipe, too, if I remember.

I am seeing those "morning people" on the thread now, (Hi, Opa!) and that scares me so I think it is high time I am in bed. Hope for a couple hours sleep, ugh.

Oh good! Glad to hear that. Yeah, we are only about 15 miles from Lapeer, and I'm in Lapeer at least twice a week usually between grocery shopping and the kids sports. :)

Brethern, glad DH is home!!! Hopefully you'll still have enough to do a decnt combover by next week...deep side-parts are in, right? lol! (((Hugs))) and prayers for a speedy recovery for him.

Our run is almost done! Yay! Hubby and my 6 year old finished it last night while I was at practice, coaching...it looks GREAT! I have to put the chicken wire on it, but then it's done! Woot! I'll post pics after I finish it. My son was SOOO proud that he helped and it turned out good that he took me outside with a flashlight when I got home just to show me! lol! Alright, lots to do today and less time to do it, so I'm off! :) I hope you all have a wonderful day!

I planted a few butternut plants and they were doing decent, until the squash bugs moved over from the zukes. Same thing happened to my acorn squash.

Next year ought to be great with how many bugs we had by the end of summer.

Got another egg from Daisy the SLW yesterday, and one of the BSLs (I haven't managed to name those 3 yet) keeps walking around clucking up a storm! She's so loud! She hung out on the perches for the nest boxes a bit yesterday after Daisy laid her egg, so maybe she's getting ready to start laying too!

My barred rocks are HUGE compared to everything else.....I can't believe they aren't laying yet too!
