I find it a fact that it costs a lot of money for feed as it is, for the chickens to sort through the layer pellets cause all they want are the sunflower or cracked corn as their preference. I don't feed them more food until they eat it all up. It's like asking a kid if he wants to eat peas or a cookie.

I make scratch or a treat feed out of a #40 bag of sunflower seed, several bags of split peas, and a bag of scratch (from the feed store that just went out in Lowell) has corn, oats, and several other grains in it. Hope it lasts most of the winter, I Toss several cans(soup size)
in to the back 1/2 of the run in the AM gives them something to do until I get back out to open the run door. along with feed in a feeder like Novas, 37 birds

I'm glad the Welsummers are doing well for you. I am thinking about increasing the number I keep and may switch to only keeping Welsummers.

Just finished cooking a batch of black raspberry jam and after taking a break I think I will install the Xmas lights on the house while the weather is reasonable.

Hubby got out of decorating the outside of the house this year. My son brought his car from Chicago to store in our garage. Since we already had one of his cars, had to maneuver the cars to go in sideways. After a lot of rearranging and a lot of driving back and forth, we got both cars in... only to realize that they are under the attic stairs where all the Christmas stuff is. All I got was the x mas tree that we put in the shed. Guess I get a break too, just a plain x mas tree this year!
