Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

I got Pat settled in to his temporary home. I let him just sit in the front seat all the way home from Scifisarah's house. I must say, and hope she doesn't read this, but I am thinking of heading back to her house when she's not looking and stealing her coop. It is so cute! Anyway, Pat is settled in and was talking my ear off about half way home. I really hope Jace likes him. He's going to be his cloverbud bird. Heck, he better cuz I do not think the faverolle boys will let him touch them. LOL.

Thanks Sarah!

Tj, be sure to put a nice coat of paint on the inside of the coop when you are finished putting it together. I got a bunch of skids and made a floor out of them for the coop. I am thinking I hate it and might go back to bare earth. I loved the bare earth. Just raked up the poop every few days. SO, I think I will repurpose them and build another coop. Only the skids I have... look like this...
AIN'T NO WAY!! I will tear these apart. They are so heavy as it is, and I figure, just seal the spaces in between, then a coat of paint... But yeah, they are heavy as heck and been used, so painting is a must in the event that there is something on/in the wood that I'd not want to harm the birds.

I just got one section done! Geeze its a work out.. .Better doing it now than the heat of summer in my book LOL I have a few different types My debate now is that I am thinking maybe of putting down those cheap sitcky backed tiles from the dollar store, then I can just sweep it out easily...I am going to use some shavings/pellet bedding in the coop to soak up any liquid... I thought about possibly spraying the inside white to lighten it up, the outside I want to do barn red with the white trim like the old style barns... In all reality I will probably end up with bland wood till spring. For the gaps, I have been pulling the slats off the back side leaving just skids and overlapping the front side... What I do know is that my thumb only got hit once so far... I can live with that LOL

Haha, I don't think a tornado could carry our coop away, it is so solid. Our neighbor was quite amused the whole time (several months) we were building it and asked if he could rent it out to live in. I need to find some Christmasy looking flowers to put in the boxes soon, definitely done with tulips! I am so bummed - after you mentioned that another one of my bantam cochin chicks looks like a cockeral, I really spent some time looking at them better. I now think that four of the five are cockerals. It is amazing how much they can change in just a few days... Four of them look like they are trying to kill each other right now. One is just standing back and watching like they are all idiots so I am hoping I at least have one girl.

Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you--Goliath...

He refused to stand still, so you can't quite tell just how beautiful he is. He's only about 6-7 months old, so he still has plenty of growing out to do.

He is from Hall Family Farm's Buff Orpington eggs.

Everything is loaded in my truck with the exception of my backpack. In the morning I'll add a thermos of coffee and a couple of sandwiches to it and I'll be out the door by 6:00. It's only 20 miles from my house to my deer blind so I will be quietly settled before sunrise.

For many years filling my tags was never an issue and I have taken well over 200 deer from the farm I hunt. However, in the last few years the adjacent farms no longer plant crops and they have become overrun with hunters. Plus the nephew of my farmer has taken up hunting and brings several friends. Then to compound it even further the old farmer told his priest he could hunt. He meant for only the priest to come but he brought his two brothers who now come by themselves with their friends and family.

If the huge influx of hunters and no crops wasn't enough to ruin an incredible hunting spot, the emeral ash borers devastated the woods and then God saw fit to allow a tornado to fell 80% of the trees. It is now such a tangled mess that it's a real challenge to get to my blind. Last year I let several deer walk by because I didn't want to face dragging them thru all of the windfalls. Having almost no venison in my freezer will probably give me the motivation to drag this year.

Neighbor is heading up north tonight. He's packing his van as we speak for the trip. He didn't get anything with bow season, so he's hoping for better luck with rifle.

Scifisarah, I only think the 3 are boys... The two were clearly boys, and the one that's iffy... but it looked like 3-2 to me...

I just spent a half hour looking for my missing frizzled Polish roo Benny. I had my son out looking and my dh. Everywhere, no Benny. He gets around so checking the field the woods. My son yells "Mom are you blind?" Benny was sleeping in a nest box the whole time.

I'm sure it wasn't funny at the time, but I'm so glad he was safe!!!

Chickens do the funniest things that I'm pretty sure they plot out to scare us.
