So the 20 acres I live on must have suddenly become a haven for deer. I saw several nice does, and a very excellent looking buck (four points, but very muscular and broad looking) hanging out back. I have a huntering permit, but no deer tags. I don't consider this land good for hunting. On two sides there are horses and pastures, it isn't safe to shoot. I guess the deer realize that.

Crummy for you, but good for the deer I suppose! I have to be very particular about the shots I take with my crossbow on our little 2 acres. I had excellent kill shots several days in a row and my husband was starting to get impatient with me. Both times they were standing with a driveway behind them though, where they are putting up a new garage/pole barn behind us. I don't shoot unless there is solid ground for my arrow to go into since the crossbow has so much power. Sooooo not worth the meat to risk killing someone and missing my kids growing up while I am in prison! I finally got a good shot a few weeks ago and this one did not make it off our land for once, which made me proud! It had the thoughtfulness to run and drop in our driveway, which was the easiest drag yet.

Leaves work well for bedding, especially if you use the deep litter method. It also gives the chickens something to do rooting around looking for goodies.

Well, its a very beautiful and sunny day for celebrating what had happened 24 years ago. And I thank God for a very good start on life.

My view from my bedroom window when I woke up. (I work nights, so didn't wake up 'til after 8 am.)
