Crystal,

Did you go to the GR show? I wanted to go but its like a 2.5 hour drive one way. They also did have one in Livonia but that's a hike too. So I stayed home and posted all the farm stuff here, on CL had all the company I needed for one day. LOL

Beautiful birds!! Gosh I love Keets. So many beautiful colors.

I think since she was so mean she should give those birds to you.

Good Morning all. This sure made me laugh. Have a great day everyone. We are going to carve some pumpkins, just us old folks. No kids around. I am thinking we are going to have a blast!!! Maybe I will get a few pics as Hotwings is coming over to carve them with my dh and I. Yeah us.

Morning everyone!
I have been up for a while, but I had a hankering for biscuits and gravy this morning soooo......Mmmmm it was sooo good!

My plan for the rest of the day is to sew up some new corn bags and clean up some junk out of the upstairs of the barn.

The sunshine is soooo great! Enjoy it!

Good Morning, all!

I don't suppose anyone happens to have a 6-month-ish old White Bantam Cochin hen they're be willing to part with?

My daughter had a pair she was working with and planning to show at fair next year and the hen is gone. Both were there last night when she locked them up and this morning the hen was gone. Weirdest thing is these are our only birds that don't freerange. They have a "mobile home" a solid coop attached to a little run that we can move around to give them fresh "pasture" each day. There is a door on the back for human access to the house and a small door on the front for access to their run. Both are locked shut at night. The door that goes into their run was cracked open, but the run wasn't compromised at all. I would've expected a coon or fox to have done some visible damage to the wire getting into the run to access that door. Of course I would've expected a coon or fox to want more than one tiny cochin hen for dinner too so maybe we're dealing with something else here.

Aside from the daughter crying all morning the roo is going berserk. They've always been together. When she was here if we took her out of the run and walked away for a few minutes he'd call and call and call... it's going to be a long day. I hope he doesn't run himself to death out there looking for a way out to go find her.

ETA: guesses as to the type of predator welcome. It'd have had to enter under chicken wire in the run without bending it upwards or digging under, went through a door that's only 4 by 4 and didn't even open it all the way, no feathers (aside from the usual ones as she was molting anyway), no blood. Would have had to go back out the same way.

Thank you. I was always of the thought that bantams were a bit... silly. But after she got this pair for fair I have so enjoyed them. I will miss the darn little hen just as much as she will.

The floor is solid wood, the roof line is only about waist high at the tallest (it's a small A-frame built specifically just to house the pair of bantam cochins) so I can easily see it all. It's intact. It had to have gone through that cracked door. I honestly am amazed it got the hen back out the door without opening further. We purposely made the door just big enough for the cochins to get through so if a dog or something came by during the day they could retreat inside and stand a fighting chance...

I believe one should do the best they can for pets or the things they are responsible for.
