That is information on yaks. I was going to talk my dad into getting some but the price just shot that in the butt. I think we will stick with beef cattle.

Rice -n- Apples ? Is that fresh cut apples or cooked soft apples?

I use bake, cooked or purree'd apples. Which ever I have on hand. Sometimes I just dice them up too if Im lazy. LOL

I bought a brand new dehydrator cheap off Craigslist a couple weeks ago as I still have so many apples and the grand kids and chickens love them. So this week Im doing loads of them and when I want to use them again for pies, baking ect, I just rehydrate them with a couple cups of water. It also has a secton for making fruit roll ups you just puree the apples pour the mixture in the fruit pan and waaala just like store bought and no chemicals. Grandkids love the fruit roll ups. Just one more way to live self sufficient.

- Now if i could just get the dairy farmer down the road to teach me how to curn my own butter, Id be happy as a lark. Toast with real butter and some fresh graded parm cheese and a slice of tomato on top is another favorite breakfast for me.

HR...you asked how dinner was, it was OUTSTANDING! oh my gosh, the meat was great. so tender and tonight i will make the breast meat. and mashed potatoes, of course. these Midgies are the PERFECT size for cooking and not having turkey leftovers forever. i love it! totally thrilled with them.
and the taste tests that point them as number one are absolutely CORRECT. the flavor is amazing. the dark meat has the best flavor with no gamey taste at all!!!

yay for Midget Whites!!!!!

Good morning all, Just a quick note before I am off for the day. Trying not to miss to much, but gosh you all are busy.

Oopsy, I see you are from Dryden. Funny, a friend of mine just bought a house there. She said someone with chickens lives nearby and the roosters crow at all hours. She also has a horse and donkey in her back yard. I think she loves it. Not complaining about anything, she really enjoys it.

Yaklady, very interesting about the Yaks.

Miss Jayne...mmmmgood. looks delicious.

have a great day.

Oh, and Hillbilly rooster, that buff hatched out 3 chicks and is a wonderful mom. and she is good to me too. Lets me handle the babies, whenever I want to and has never even tried to bite me. I love her and her name is now Alice.

Ask her is she's around Sutton or Summers Rd...as if so, its my roosters making all the noise LOL My Andalusian is like a broken record and crows all day/night. Anyone know where his batteries are so I can make him stop? He's young and trying to get his big boy crow down pat I think. As he sounds like a teen boy when their voice starts to change. All crackle'n. But ya gotta love'em.

Its beautiful country out here and if she wants a tour and to meet a bunch of the locals, give her my email addy and I'll show her and her family, around.

I just wanted to pop in and say hello to all.

I haven't posted much, but I feel like I am stalking everyone because I read this thread constantly. I have been making alot of changes to my chicken setups, after all my recent predator attacks. My DH felt so bad for my DD and myself, he turned half our basement into winter coops for my banties. Still not sure how this is going to work, it's right under our bedroom.

But my babies are all safe and happy. Sorry to ramble on, hope everyone has a great day.

Hi KKL, nothing more worry some than having predators around. I went through that in September. Lost 13 of my laying girls. Now I just let my dogs out often in the evenings after dark and tell them to get the critters. They run around the property barking and just looking for something to chase. I guess its worked as I havent had anymore problems. With the exceptions of hearing the darn coyotes in the woods a few nights a week, howling. But at least they arent coming up to my house/barns anymore.

Hi, there! Thanks for saying hello. Wow, chickens in the basement, huh? Hehe-you just outdid me in the overprotective mom department. Keep us posted as to how it works out for you. Or just keep us posted about anything in general-don't be shy!
