managed to get my 3 miles in ran 2 and walked 1. Was about all my head could handle. Cannot wait for this head cold to be gone.

Off to Lansing today to the chiropractor then on to Charolotte to the Amish Store. The kids are excited!

Good luck Opa. My son's and I will leave for our property in Tawas mid day Christmas to try to get another doe or two. I would love to know how you make that pastrami from venison.

I have a question for all you more experienced folks. My rooster has what I think is frost bite on his waddles. There is a dark colored area around the very outside edge in a couple places. His waddles are pretty long (maybe 2.5 - 3 inches). I have a red heat lamp in the coop near their roost so they get some heat at night. I let them roam during the day. Is this something that I need to be concerned about or is it normal?

Merry Christmas to all of you and your families.

I sure was cold out there this morning but fortunately I only had to sit for thirty minutes when 15 does came by. Field dressing the deer wasn't too bad as long as my hands were in the deer, but as soon as I took them out the blood on them instantly froze.

Larry, I'm sure your rooster is frostbitten. Any comb or wattle will fall off. Keep an eye on him to watch for infection. If you allow him to go outside frostbite will be a problem. I had a Welsummer rooster that was kept at night in a heated coop and his comb and wattles were cover with Udder Balm every other day all winter and he still was so serverely frostbitten that he looked as if he had been dubbed. I've moved all of my roosters indoors for the duration of subfreezing weather. They aren't real happy but they will have combs and wattles come spring.

Good job on the doe!

I have some udder balm in the barn. I'm not even sure if he will let me pick him up.

Where can I get some Prague Poweder No 1 locally. I want to try these recipes. They look awesome!

Should I keep the hens in also?

Didn't go out and sit (too cold) but around 10 am my hunting buddy came out and we did a slow walk around the perimiter. he went down one side and I took the other. Saw 4 does, two that spotted me coming and two which he had pushed right to me. Before I could get my gun up she was 30 yards away standing still looking right at me. Needless to say she wouldn't avert her gaze and as soon as I flinched she took off like a shot. I won't take a running shot and she was carrying the mail. Hate it when that happens and happy that deer don't carry guns. She had me dead to rights. Won't get another chance till after Christmas as I am off tomorrow to visit family in northern Illinois. Dreading the drive around Chicago.
Merry Christmas all.

Just wanted to pop in and say hello. Busy getting ready for Christmas. I've got Christmas cookie dough chilling in the fridge and I'll probably make some bread for tomorrow. Hope all is well with everyone!

Good Christmas Eve morning to everyone. Safe travels and happy times to all. This is our first Christmas without our kids at home - it's way too quiet around here. I almost said we were empty nesters but that would have been a lie. We've traded kids for chickens.

While I have been serious about deer hunting I made sure not to shoot any that had harness on. So Santa should be able be able to make it to everyone's house.
