Merry Christmas

Awwwwwww, she's an absolute doll. Merry Christmas, everyone. Opa, I'm glad you didn't shoot one of Santa's reindeer, as my little boy would be sorely disappointed. LOL! We took him to the airport today to catch his flight down to Texas to visit his dad. Due to bad weather in Dallas (What the heck?), they cancelled all unaccompanied minor's flights. The little guy is such a trooper-just smiled and said, "It's alright. I wanted to stay here anyways." So I quickly put in a call to Santa and let him know that he needed to come here tonight. This was done in front of my son, because he was a bit worried that Santa wouldnn't know of the change in plans. LOL! They're just too darn cute at that age. I have to say that I'm happy he's going to be with us after all.

Jason, I don't think anything can compare with a new baby just before xmas. Beautiful child and hopefully the picture will remind us all of the precious baby this season celebrates. Merry Christmas all.

Hillbilly Rooster what a beautiful baby. Gosh they are one of the greatest gifts god can give us, new LIFE. I'm sure this will be a Christmas you'll never forgot.

YakLady I'm happy your son is able to stay with you and Santa can come to your house. Christmas morning just isn't the same without small pitter patters across the floor and the wide eyed look at the tree and all the joy. (Im sure his father is upset he cannot be with him though)

Opa: Congrats on another doe. Looks like you'll be set for the winter.

Ive been baking since 3:30pm today. The grand babies will be wired for sound LOL Ive made brownies, peanut butter fudge, peanut butter cookies, Chinese New Year cookies, tater salad and lasagna sauce/meat to make it for a friend of mine Christmas evening. Have to be at Crazy Chicken Fever's at 10am. She said MOM don't be late as the kids will be awaiting for you. I wouldn't miss it for the world. Cant wait to see them all unwrap'n their presents. Then well all bake a cake for baby Jesus birthday before supper. Its always a very special day for me. Just wish husband was here to enjoy the day with us. But Im sure he's watching over all of us.

Merry Christmas everyone.
If you are going out tomorrow, drive safe. Watch others on the road closely.

Carol and the feather/fur kids!!

Hello all, and Merry Christmas! I've been creeping about this lovely site for going on a year now and finally decided it was time to join the fray. I just recently moved to a metro Detroit suburb where, according to city ordinances, it isn't illegal to have chickens... but they must be kept a fairly impossible number of feet (for the lots in the area) from other dwellings. Clearly the city just doesn't want to be bothered with anyone keeping chickens without actually outlawing them. I was curious about how well, whether legal or no, it goes for those of you in Michigan who have chickens in the suburbs or city. How bad is the noise? Is it impossible to have two or three hens without alerting everyone nearby or nosy city inspectors?

My hubby steadfastly claims that a childhood friend of his kept two hens where he grew up in Detroit and that they could be heard from 5 houses away constantly. Can anyone share their non-rural experiences with me? I'd just like to avoid a nasty, unecessary fight with the city if possible.

My brother in Muskegon called to wish Granny a merry Christmas. He then wanted to tell me about a story he read in the local paper about a person of the west side of the state who is starting a chicken coop and hen rental business. He feels that with many communities now allowing chickens and with many people wanting to eat organic food he is going to be extremely busy. He is paying a carpenter to build A-frame coops that he will be renting for a $99 startup fee and then $30 per month rental for the coop and 3 hen. The renter will have to supply the feed. He stated that the eggs they will get will just about total cover the cost. He must know of a much better breed of chicken than I am aware of. I hate to burst anyone's bubble but I don't think he will be renting many. Then if the renter discovers this site they will soon be cancelling.
