My chickens have been out and about the past three days. They were even laying out in the sun for a bit sunbathing. However, One of my rooster has been getting kind of boisterous the past few days. Well, he's about to land his boisterous butt is rooster jail soon if he doesn't change his evil ways.

I also have a crockpot he'll fit nicely in.

I have 2 EE roos like that. None of the EE like to go out of the coop or the ground. They stay on the roosts except to get down to eat. And I think I know why now, as soon as one of the females hits the ground one of the roos jumps on them. It is crazy!! Sometimes the pullets will run outside and that is one place the little EE roos won't go due to Rodney the Buff Orp roo is more than twice their size and doesn't put up with them chasing his girls. I am thinking chicken soup myself.

He's fine with the girls. It's the humans who have to worry.

I never worry when they are out free ranging because that rooster is on the ball, and he has two other roosters who are his back up. Those two don't bother the humans they know better.

HIM on the other hand, he thinks he can take on the humans until the humans chase his behind all over the place much to the amusement of our neighbor.

Mine look scruffy because our roo doesn't have much else to do with his time when they are cooped up for the winter. He's a very busy guy right now. I may end up separating him with the a couple of younger hens (not quite ready yet). Then he will still have company.

Briana - hadn't read your other post about your roo with one of your EE hens. Our roo does that with one of my Isa Browns. He seems kinda harsh towards her sometimes. It's like she's in trouble or something. She hangs out on the roost or stays away from him (if she can) when they are free ranging.

Good Morning everyone!
My chickens are fed and watered, lots of mud out there today. mud and ice. Eggs were scattered today- not too sure what that means- unless I have a crabby girl who didnt want to lay an egg where other eggs were and she tossed them out.

Im going to take my dog to the field now, and let him get some exercise. I took him yesterday and he cut his nose somehow- he sticks it deep in the snow and snorffs as hard as he can. Must have poked it on something. There were deer track everywhere. He likes to pretend he is a hunting dog, but this one is definitely not- our Golden is. My husband has him trained to retrieve ducks, geese- but my pit just bounds around and has no interest in bringing anything back. He will go SMELL that which he is supposed to retrieve, but then he returns to you without it. lol.

I hope you all have a wonderful day.

Im trying to hold off on ordering eggs for a couple more weeks, but its definitely difficult. Spring fever, early. lol

I've been sitting here much too long trying to come up with excuses to not go out to my shop and get busy of a project I started last summer. I have an old Hoosier Brand kitchen cabinet that I have started repairing and refinishing. It's going to be a great cabinet when finished. It was probably made in the 1890's and the thing is that it is complete. It has a zinc pull out counter top, a sugar bin, a flour bin with sifter and a revolving spice rack with the original glas jars. The entire unit was very dirty and the back of both the upper and lower cabinet were delaminating and had to be replaced. The tambour doors needed to have the fabric backing replaced but were complete. The worst thing is that the interior of the upper cabinet and the bins had been painted several times. Disassembly went well and in short order I had the base unit cleaned, repaired and reassembled. Then I started removing the paint. Decades old paint is extremely difficult to remove and the task was taking much longer than I had envisioned. A job came in that required I put it aside and there it has sat for months. So now I sit here drinking coffee and trying to come up with another reason to procrastinate.

Good morning everyone!

M2em...too funny about your pit. I was envisioning your story as I read it.

Spring's getting close...I've started counting down the weeks. Instead of thinking of it as only being January, I count down the weeks until April...it makes time go by much faster.

My bantam Cochins have started laying again, so they must know something we don't...either that, or this "January thaw" has got them really confused.

Hope everyone has a beautiful day!

Good Morning everyone! Mighty foggy out there. Chickens and rabbits fed and watered, now it's my turn! I'm getting a few more eggs the last few days. I know the two bantams in the big coop are now laying, that means they'll go broody soon! They're silkies... that should explain it all!

Found a brown egg in the rabbit's nest box a couple days ago and another one today in their nest box. Haven't seen a brown egg in so long. I had a couple blue eggs, but that stopped again. Two bantams in the bantam coop are now laying. Finally, I have eggs to give my kids! Gosh, got six eggs out of 25 hens the other day! Yoohoo!
Well, have a good day all.

Morning all! My serama's are starting to lay better too and I already have two that are broody!

Silly birds weigh less than a pound but some get quite fierce over protecting those eggs!!
