I wanted to tell you guys that one of the cochins I got from Michelle was crowing this morning. They aren't even 3 weeks old. It was really funny.

Afternoon! Picked up my chicks from Family Farm & Home yesterday. I had the stomach flu on Wednesday, so they graciously held them for me. When I picked them up, the staff apologized because someone had taken 11 of my 20 meat chicks out of my special order bin. I wasn't upset with them. There are signs posted all over the special order bins -- Please do not take from these bins - special order. So it looks like next week I'll pick up the rest. Glad to be feeling better! Cleaning the house like crazy today and enjoying the nice weather before it turns ugly!

Thanks, wylie! I have been. I also picked up 2 SLWs, 2 BRs, 2 BOs, 1 BA, and 1 bantam -- the large fowl are all supposed to be pullets and I am hoping the bantam is. It has wing feathers that look as though it may be a pullet. I'll have to post a picture of the bantam, maybe some of you can tell me what it is. Not familiar with them. It is black with a brown head -- no feathers on the feet.

My dear husband is making a new top for our meat bird pen. He got an old sewing machine out to sew the edges and to triple up on the fabric where the gromets are going. Hoping it will last a few years. The material is from his cousins motor home cover that ripped and he gave us figuring it would work for this tractor.
Next is to start building some tractors for all the bantams we are getting next week!

Jack is ready to play kick ball. Have a great evening

I had to wait over 7 months to hear my LF blue/black rooster crow, and even then it was like hearing nails on a chalkboard.

It was another 2 months before he got all 5 syllables going.

I candled my turkey eggs, nothin' doin' yet, that I can see. I'll try again Sunday (day 10) and if that doesn't work,

ChickeeMomma -- Did you go to the Family Farm & Home in Alma? I was there this afternoon and you're right their special order tubs are VERY well marked and they're not even the same as the other tubs. It's pretty hard to miss the fact that you're picking from a reserved selection. I would wager someone took them because the meat chicken tubs were empty.

What a shame.

I ended up coming home with a few unplanned fuzzy butts -- 5 bantams and 2 rouen ducklings because they were just too cute to pass up. I grabbed the bantams thinking they might be cochins since they use Townline Hatchery and I didn't think they had much of a selection. But now that I got them home I am wondering if I was mistaken. I might just have to put up a picture as well and see what all you breed experts have to say. They have light grey/blue bodies and golden heads, feathered feet.

Coffee sure is a necessity this morning as I feel that night was much to short. There certainly is a big change in the weather. I'm sure glad I don't have any chicks right now. Hopefully by the time my chicks arrive the weather will be a little more spring like.

We only have 73 days until Chickenstock. It will be a wonderful chance to meet more of my fellow avian affectionados. Ya'll sure are a nice bunch of people and I glad for the opportunity to get to know more of you. Yesterday I took Granny to meet the YakLady and we had a great time with Caycee and her husband Tom. It's nice to be able to get together with folks I've met through this site.

I knew it was coming but still wasn't happy to see it on the ground this morning - SNOW!

Weather.com is promising me tomorrow it'll be back to the low 50s and at least a little sun.

I sure hope they're right.
