We set a new record yesterday down here in the S.E. - 68.9 degrees. Normal high is 43 - so today is seasonal. Here's a link of some April weather history - not to make anybody feel depressed, but hey, we're living in Michigan for gracious sake.

It's snowing at my house. Not heavy or anything. I know the weather in RI ( where I'm from ) is getting what we had yesterday. Their weather is usually a day apart from us, so they cringed when I said it was snowing.

I was born on 20th of April. My parents said it snowed the day I decided to grace everyone with my presence. ( I was two weeks late. )

My Dad said it wasn't a small amount either. I think they have pictures lying around somewhere. Maybe, that's why I always liked snow.

It's not coming down hard, but I'm not complaining. I just got done cleaning the yard after it dried out enough. I don't want anymore rain at the moment.

Good morning everyone.

My ducklings are 17 days today. One of them quacked this morning. Is that a sign that it is a girl? I read girls quack and boys hiss. They are much whiter now too. The chicks are all doing great. They can fly around the brooder now and we put a roost in for them. So far only a couple have checked it out. The silkies have been spending the warmest part of the day in a special enclosed run for the last week. I can't wait to add on to the coop ond get those girls outside. And we have the cochins in with our origanial flock, Everyone is getting along wonderfully.

lets hope for better weather for tomorrow.

Have a good day

Somebody was looking for piglets a couple of days ago. Has anyone been to or heard of Potato Creek Farm in Ithica, MI? They are advertising registered Berkshires on CL. I checked out the website, some really nice looking pork on the hoof. http://potatocreekheritagebreeds.com/index.html

They
have turkeys and chickens too, just what we all need.

I received an email from the owner last week (we are just starting out a breeding program for American Guinea Hogs, a small heritage lard breed, and so are they...) It was just a short exchange, obviously, but I did have a great first impression of them, for what that's worth.

My oldest son, in Missouri, is getting some mule foot hogs. Supposedly they are very easy on pastures, don't root much, very gentle and the most amazing thing is that they have a single toe like a mule or horse.

Yep, it was the one in Alma. The staff said they were sorry that someone had been dishonest. That's what I figured -- someone took them because all the meaties were gone from the regular meatie tubs. I'll pick more up next week.

I'm in Midland ~ where are you Olive Hill?

A few years ago, April 26th we got about ten inches of snow. My dad was visiting for his birthday- he lives in Chattanooga Tennessee, and my husband and my youngest went outside and made a giant snowman. I have a picture of it in my bedroom. So, its not unusual for us to still get snow now- but we were spoiled with a taste of Spring all last week.
I just thought if we all wished hard enough, the snow would stay away...

I have the weekend off- it figures the weather wouldnt cooperate. My hens are enjoying themselves today anyhow. I wish i could move the Black Giant babies out of the house. They are too big to be in this cage, but too small to not be protected. Maybe soon.

Oh yeah, we were spoiled with the nicer weather.

I did managed to get some yard things done, but there is still more to do.

It's was really windy yesterday. There was stuff blowing all over the place.

My chickens seem to be enjoying this crazy weather. They were catching mice, and running around all over the place.
