Huston's Happy Hens :

I have a hen in the kitchen setting on three beautiful blue eggs. Should have hatched out Friday. She had others hatch out Th, Fri and Sat......So we have 3. But no blue ones!!!!! what a disappointment. I've been looking for ads for local chicks to stick under her. Good luck finding something for your gals. I did see an ad under day old chicks of someone in SE MI with some chicks a few days old. I'm too busy this week to run. Did you see the ad?

Thanks Bethanyrae:

I feel your PAIN! I'm checking with the MSU Poultry Research Farm now to see if Antonio has any standard eggs available!

I didn't realize you could get things over at the poultry barns.

He is my second grandchild to go to school but what is different is that he lives with me. I have watched him since he was a baby... I have so much respect for teachers... they do not get the money or recognition that they deserve. Just like stay at home moms... respect and recognition is hard to find. I want to give a big THANK YOU TO ALL THE TEACHER OUT THERE.

Okay, I'm confused. I assumed when you posted that he lived in another state since he'd already started school. I was under the impression post Labor Day start was now a Michigan law?

He is in St. Peter's Lutheran school. We are not Lutherans but he went to the preschool last year there and the teachers and staff were so good that my daughter and husband wanted him to go again this year. He had a few problems before he went to this school and even the teachers were shocked at his improvement.
He had a bad studdering problem , and a few other things which I will not mention... but he is so imiproved... I think it was the smaller class size, one on one that they give, the calm and patient way they teach there... and a whole lot of other things.
but any who they started early this year...
Had a real bad start to the day today... my daughter has a big chip on her shoulder. I just don't know if I can deal with this anylonger... she is 31... I think it is time to leave here... I feel so sad for my grandson... none of this is his fault... but I cannot tolerate disrespect. I am getting too old for this stuff. But I love my grandson...what to do?

Gallinamamma, My granddaughter started in daycare at the Lutheran school in their town and continued through 6th grade. She got a wonderful education.
Also my 2nd son had a severe stuttering problem as a child. Many teachers felt that placing him in special ed would help. Like most stutterers he is very intellegent and I wouldn't allow them to take him out of regular classes. Several times a week we would read aloud as a family. He would take his turn and we would never finish a word for him. Many people want to help by saying a problem word for them rather than listen to the struggle to say it. They usually know how to pronounce it, it is the forming of the word that is difficult. Since we never made an issue of it he soon became comfortable speaking in front of people. Today most people have no idea that he has a stuttering problem and he is very active in politics and often speak before large groups. I sometimes detect a slight measured meter to his voice that is more pronounced if he is very tired. I think the key is to make kids feel you are sincerely interested in what they have to say and will listen no matter how long it takes.

I agree totally, my grandson is so much better.. I think his started because of some problems that my daughter and soninlaw where having... they would yell constantly... and he can't stand the loud sounds.. he would cover his ears.. It was so bad before he went to this school he would jump to say the word. It was so awful for him... gladly he doesn't studder now only when he is excited.
My other older grandson... the teachers always want to put alabel on everything... if a child cannot do something or acts out, or talks out of turn... they say he is has ADD... and to put him on meds.
I think it is more behavioral than anything else. not all children have ADD... nor do they all need to be medicated so they are like zombies and easier to control. I think more research is needed... and teachers have to understand that everything has to be exhausted before you put a child on medication.
It takes a lot of patience to raise a child and to teach them... I feel sometimes.. we have lost our patience.

I went out to Mason this morning to pick up my daughter's contacts that came in, and picked up four Isa's! They had probably at least another dozen or so there. $1.69 ea. 517 676-9870. You could call to see if they'll hold some for you. They're in a shopping center the east side of Cedar just north of Columbia. Near Good Will and Family Dollar. US27 is a nice connect from DeWitt to Mason...are you tempted????

My broody seemed fine adding them to her other three that hatched this weekend. As long as she's doing all the work, why not?
Thank you, Keyt for the heads-up!

I'm surprised there were any left. I know between CricketYang and I we bought 23 lol. My boyfriend said I just wanted them because the calls are almost big enough to go out to the pen permanently and I wanted something else to grow up on the porch so I can watch them all day long like I did the calls lol. Maybe he's right. Sad to think two of them will be fully grown in 7-8 weeks and won't be pets. I almost wish I hadn't purchased them now!

Wow, a lot of you are adding chicks into the flocks. No more chicks for me right now. I am enjoying watching the chicks from this spring lay new eggs and the young roosters help them out. My little serama roo we hatched out is such a little gentleman with his girls. He brings them to the nest box gets in with them scratches around and makes a nice nest for them. Then he hops out and waits for them to be done. He is so cute. The best part is when he tries to mate a standard size pullet and they stand up and walk around with him trying to mate them on their back.

I LOVE my seramas! I have a a hen and roo. The roo is nicknamed Pretty Boy because he walks around like he's all that. He sure won't let anyone bother his lady! They are both sweet and fun to watch!

That is too funny about them walking off with him on their back. No new chicks here right now either. They're cute, but no. It's going to be cold very soon and that just makes for more work with little chicks.

I agree, it's a lot of work, but I am disabled and not allowed to work outside of the home or do much of anything, so the chickens and ducks give me something to do! Fortunately my bf is so wonderful, he does all the work for me on my bad days when I can't move well
