Yep, they take all forms of payment and it is free to get in so come take a look! It is fun to see what will show up. One year there was an antique fire truck. One year there were a couple of mobile homes, of course there are always Amish quilts - gorgeous! The things you can find there are pretty neat! If you like that sort of thing, it is a good place to go.

Good morning all. I got my morning workout done this morning. But my workout buddy, Collin my 10 yr old, was too tired. He did have football practice last night though so no big deal.

We got to see mama doe with her twins this morning. They are getting big. It was nice to see she kept them safe and fed over the summer.

Yeah I think I'll just go look. Of course when I say this to my bf he'll say "I know you and going to look at things" haha. Meaning he's sure I'll come home with more animals LOL

. Headed out in a bit to do some errands then probably come home for a nap.

Vicki, I mentioned the auction to my bf. He said maybe we should take his daughter's car (small compact) and not his truck LOL. What he doesn't know is I've had small cars before and I'm really good at figuring out how to transport stuff in them hahaha

Huston's Happy Hens :

Hey Gang - I'm looking for some input here - perhaps you've heard the story...3 broodies....been 4 wks...no babes - ordered babes today should be here tomorrow - does anyone have experience leaving broodies in with the main flock AND/OR experience with housing 2 broodies together? It's a double dog house w/run...thanks!

Hey! What did you find for babies?

Lookie what was delivered to the Dewitt Post Office this morning - we rec'd the call at 5:15a.m.! We ordered from the Meyer Hatchery in Ohio - YESTERDAY afternoon about NOON! That's SERVICE - all the chicks were hatched yesterday and are healthy and happy and hungry! They've been eating all morning! I'm going to place them with their foster Mom tonight....We have 6 Cuckoo Marans, 2 Blue Andalusians, and 2 White Leghorns.
Now I'll have to work on breaking the 2 BO's from their broodiness; suggestions as always welcom!

Hi everyone!

I joined a few days ago and made an introduction in the new member section.

I have said hi to a couple people already but thought I would say hi here in the Michigan thread as that is where I am from!

I am in Jackson county, but my family lives in Livingston county and that is where the chickens will be once we get them.

A rooster has decided to make my parents home his home so we are going to get some hens and hopefully draw him in and give him a safe and warm place to live this winter.

He has been with my parent for 2 years now and his friends are the wild turkeys when they come to visit but they are gone now and he just chases the crows. So hopefully we can get him used to coming into a coop with the "girls"! lol

I posted pictures of him in the new member section also. I titled it something like "our mystery rooster" in case you want to see him. We have no idea what he is but someone has suggested he is an American game and we are going with that! He is black with a reddish tint to his head and neck. He is beautiful whatever he is!

I'm sure we will have lots of questions in the near future.

I'm glad I found this forum!

Lisa

Welcome Thinkaboutit. I also live in Jackson County. I haven't been on this board in a dogs age so I'm sure I've missed a lot. I took a look at the photos that you posted and I would have to say that I agree with the other posters. It's hard to definitively determine what kind of Roo's those are. You may want to keep them away from your hens until you're sure that these Roo's are not carrying any kind of disease.

From tragedy...

These two pipped yesterday and hatched early this morning. The chipmunk one is a Silkie x OEGB or Silver Ameracana, and the black is Barred Rock x blue EE. The second BR egg just hatched out half an hour ago, but that one needs time to dry off before I cuddle it. The fourth egg, a FBCM x blue EE (same roo as BR), hasn't pipped yet, but there was a "shadow" bopping around inside when I candled it, so it may just be fashionably late. It's hard to believe that these eggs, given to my broody just so I could see if my roos were fertile, are now the first step to building my flock back up.

At least there hasn't been any indication of another mink or similar predator around (knock on wood). Nothing has touched the trap, and I've seen no tracks in the new gravel around the coop. Still...

CricketYang: your picture is too dark for the necessary details needed. Just check the back of the head; if it has streamers (single feathers obviously longer than the base feathers) it's definitely a boy.
