Keyt!
Thank you for your sympathies about Carmen. Sure did love that chicken. We will miss her. I figured out who my crower is. I busted her. I heard the crowing coming from RIGHT NEXT to my bathroom window, and I ran outside as fast as I could- and my not-naked anymore hen was the only one out there by the bathroom. So, I have a gender-confused hen. She went from being the roosters favorite victim to a crower.
I love seeing your pictures of the ducks! My ducks are plastered up against my backdoor. Cant even let the dogs out because they know better than to bother the ducks, so they wont go out there. They think I am setting them up. In order to open the door, I have to push ducks. lol. They have a covered shed, the duck taj ma hal that I built, the coop, an open shed...parked car, bushes, trees, and they choose to be on my deck plastered against the door.
I dont know what is wrong with them. They look like little frozen abominable snowducks.
Im boiling their water now. I cant wait until spring.
Just came in from taking the trash dumpster to the road. I wasn't thrill to see the amount of digging out I must do. Came back in to have some coffee before starting. It may take an entire pot or two before I work up the initiative to start. Several places the drifts are close to 2'. Not going to be fun and with the wind chill at -15 I'm in no hurry to start.
Where's you picture, Sam?? Man, it's nasty outside. Think I might be staying in today! Don't overdo clearing out the snow, people! Don't want anyone landing in the hospital. It's pretty, tho, if you don't have to go out in it. I imagine the kids are happy they have a snow day! Have fun, and be smart!
Gunned it out of the drive this morning and made it past the drifts
Had a very busy weekend and will hopefully start chirstmas shopping this week! Crossing my fingers that my christmas bonus comes so I can buy gifts!
So I'm getting an egg a day now between the 7 hens, guess that's better then nothing! Yesterday was great for snow creations so we decided to do a kitty this year! This is my daughter Hannah riding on the snow kitty
My thermometer says it's 6* out and it looks like there is a steady breeze too. No winds like yesterday, which should make shoveling a path around the coop and clearing the driveway easier.
I'll see if the chickens want to come out today, but I have my doubts. Had to pluck one out of the snow last night after all the others went to roost without her. BF made a point of telling me that *I* wanted chickens, so it's my fault if I have to stand out there in the cold putting their stubborn butts in the coop.
sounds like my husband! He stopped helping me as much as he could after he tried to be "helpful" last winter and run the snow blower (which is attached to the front of the tractor) out through the yard to make a path to the chickens and the goats. YA...only he forgot about the power cords running to the coop and shed and sliced and diced them! LOL We were able to fix them but digging them out of the snow TO fix them was not very fun!
He'll keep the driveway plowed but the critters are up to me!

Wow, I can't imagine ducks acting like that! I have 19 ducks and it's like they LOVE being out in the snow! Yesterday was pretty funny because at first they went in, out, in, out for a little while, then they stayed out. I'm standing there taking pics all bundled up and freezing in the wind and they're just sitting there like it's no big deal! The chickens were a different story though. The only ones that came out were the no-brain-cell isas and the brain-cell-a-day australorps.
Today all the chickens are locked up with heat lamps on. The ducks are out there doing their thing, laying around in the sun like it's summer...despite the wicked wind!
Yep, my ducks and geese all have shelters, but only use them to go in and eat and then out they go to lay in the snow, goofy little things! Same with my LGD's, they can lay in the barn with the goats, or in the pig hut that we backed up to the barn and then covered the front with bales of straw except for a small opening and filled with loose straw for them. Do they go in? NOPE! They lay in the snow and bask in the sun, rain, snow, or whatever!
