I am so sad for my DH. 22 years ago when he first started clearing land for our house he picked this location due to the two big pine trees. Now we have one.

I saw the lightening hit the tree.

The storms the other day were monsters! I have some huge trees that I always wonder about during these storms. There are a few that could potentially take out my garage, or house. White pines get big fast so maybe you'll have to replant a few. So sorry for the loss and thank God no one got hurt.

She wasn't just a neighbor, she was my best friend. Has been for 11 years since I moved here. That's what makes it so difficult to assess.
I always thought that relationships with people were the most important kind that you could ever have.
But when someone tells you that they resented you for reasons that they themself can't define, then it is time to move along.
So I'm getting rid of the flock, filling in the pond, cutting down the tree and getting the heck out of Dodge.
This is merely another divorce.

Are you actually MOVING in addition?? Geez....really sorry for all your loses...including heartbreak and loss of faith in a close friend.

Chickmate...really happy you are going to Chickenstock. I'm looking forward to the pictures and stories and list of "acquired" chickens everyone gets!

I am dog-sitting my friends springer spaniel (bird dog). He is super good but very interested in the chickens. Every morning this week he follows me down to the coop so that he can view the chickens. He's real quiet (he learned that barking makes them go away) and sits to watch them. It's really kind of cute.

Well....this morning I let the chickens out and "Pat" (a.k.a. Patrick), our BR that we've been denying was a rooster, ran out of the coop and CROWED for the first time (at the dog)!!

My husband opened the bedroom window and was like "what was that?"
Patrick answered with a very strong "Ca - COOOOOOO!"

Need less to say I was mortified (it was 6:30AM and my neighbors had their bedroom windows open) and secretly proud of the handsom boy....took him long enough (16 weeks).

He has a harem of girls waiting for him at my friends farm.

Opa's fingers must be too greasy again this morning...he hasnt been here on this thread with morning coffee yet.

My chickens were strangley quiet and my pigeons were hiding in the coop...very very strange. Only my goose was my companion as I cussed out my pond...so I decided to investigate a little further...

lo and behold....orange and white cat in my chicken yard, hiding under the feeder.....

wait....thats MY cat.

She is INDOOR ONLY.

I scooped her up tossed her in the house. The trip back INSIDE the house is always rougher than the escape...whenever one of them venture out an open door. I have TWO that go in and out because it was too hard to train my little kids and husband five years ago NOT to let a cat out. The rest ONLY inside.

Welllllll......

I came back on here, posted about my stupid pond..drank some cofffee.. went back out, havent seen the O-Shamo...considered that perhaps a raccoon got her/him because it has NEVER slept in the coop. IT flips out. It sleeps on a lawn chair in the yard. hmmm. Walked back into the chicken yard. Pigeon wont go near the feed. I looked, and I see an orange and white cat...

So, took her BACK inside and went looking for the escape hole. Seems that something or Someone

has torn out my bedroom window screen....

did I mention that my husband is out of state?

Totally has me creeped right out. I slept in the bedroom last night. never heard a thing but that means NOTHING because I pretty much enter a comatose state when i finally drop.

Wow! That is scary. I'm glad you and your family are alright.

That's really creepy M 2em all! I'd tell you to call the police, but..

I would see if you can see footprints around your house. Scary.
Can't wait for chickenstock. The weather is gonna clear up and be a beautiful day... it better be.

It's a mess on Saginaw, so if you can avoid it, I sure would. Construction everywhere!
See you all on Sat.

Hey RaZ- You are in my thoughts this morning, and I hope things will work out for you. People can be such funny (not ha ha) creatures. Sometimes you just don't know what will set someone off. We had a neighbor once who never voiced any resentments, and exploded one day with an endless list of them. I, like fifelakelooper, am lucky to have no close neighbors here- my dh's first requirement of a place to live is he has to be able to pee in the yard without an audience. I wish you luck.

Sorry fellow Michiganiacs, but I won't be attending Chickenstock. I have an endurance ride at the Hopkins CReek trailhead between Manton and Lake City.

One of the northerners (I think Fife Lake Looper) said earlier that we up north people oughta carpool. Maybe we ought to have a "Chicken Stock North" later in the summer like around Gaylord or Grayling.
