The Live Earth should be the DE. And what I was told when I called them was that it was food-grade as I explained it was for my chickens.

Fossil shell flour is also known as diatomaceous earth. Diatomaceous earth is composed of the fossilized shell remains of diatoms

It's pretty amazing how DE can help protect your flock. As Stacykins stated DE is the fossilized shells of diatoms. While ingesting the diatoms dusty remains or having on the skin causes absolutely no harm to our birds or even us should we eat it, it wrecks havoc on insects and worms. If you were to examine DE under a powerful microscope you would see many sharps jagged edges. These penetrate the extoskeltons of insects and the bodies of worms causing them irreparable damage resulting in their death. When considering the cost versus the benefits it is definitely a minimal exspenditure.

Hi All! Boy, you have been chatty these last few days! Just got back from our camping trip to Port Sanilac. Had a great time. It's so pretty along the shore of Lake Huron. Going on another trip this week end to Mackinaw. So, got to empty the camper, clean it and restock. Dentist appt tomorrow in Lansing and lunch with my x co workers. Wed. I go back into Lansing to spend the day with the grand kids. Gonna be a busy week!
It's been hot again. Love the sunshine, just not the humidity. Causes too much glowing.

If you google Perma-Guard Fossil Shell Flour, you'll get a manufacturer's website which will tell you how their DE is the best (which you'd hardly expect them to say theirs was okay, but there are better ones out there...)--something about how theirs comes from fresh water sources, so much better than salt water sources, blah blah. But its the same brand I've been using for the last two years with apparently good results, except this time I picked it up in a parking lot in Ann Arbor instead of halfway to Detroit.

I remember my Grandpa sitting at the kitchen table in the summer just pouring sweat, his handkerchief beside him while he played Solitaire. His white t-shirt would be completely see-through. Later in life I think that was simply because the shirts were almost as old as he was --

Woo Hoo! I got my first egg!!! And I know who it's from to! When I was in the coop earlier today my little ISA Scarlett hopped up into a nest box and was pushing the sawdust around making it comfy. I've seen her up there before, but this time she seemed really interested in getting the sawdust just right. Tonight when I tucked them in I found an egg in that same box! I don't know if I'm going to have it for breakfast or have it bronzed! It's a perfect little brown egg, the same size as the ones I buy from the store.

I do have two BCM pullets as well, but they are a month younger than the ISAs. It must be your PC because the egg is the same color as the brown eggs I buy from Kroger. But I will have those dark eggs one day!
