20 minutes to get the 3 month old wyndottes up on the roosts. They keep huddling outside instead of going in. They have been in the coop for 2 months in a brooder. Now that they can be free they won't go in at night. I hope they get the idea pretty soon.

I picked wild michigan black raspberries and made a fresh berry pie. I love this time of year. Blueberry and raspberry picking is next.

What kind of fishing are you doing? We fish almost every day, mostly for whatever bites. If we're fishing for catfish, then we use stink baits and fish at night. Stink baits are usually liver that are marinated in it's own juice and the smelliest spices we can round up mixed in and leave it in the fridge for 24 hours or longer. That brings the cats up really quick! It's great for carp too. We love carp because the chickens go crazy over it and there's no cleaning like with catfish.

If we're fishing for anything else we use a combination of regular worms and nightcrawlers. I put the worm on first then the night crawler. The worms wiggle more and the nightcrawler gives it bulk on the hook. In most fishing instances I use size 2 hooks because they're easier to hold onto. The bigger the size the smaller the hook.

If you're just going to sit there and enjoy the day, worms are great. If you want some action in your fishing then get some spinners.

This is one of our favorite spots to night fish!

The resiviour is stocked with tilpia, bas and catfish. it's man-made, to you can fish out/keep over 15 inches. i;m deathly allergic to shellfish, so i tend to avoid most fish now (due to contamination at handling). I grew up eating sushi and terikaki glased carp, but i've never cleaned a fish.

I just finished a week of really invaisive medical poceedures and tests, feel like i've been hit by another car when they're done with me. Today was cortesol shots and the streaching what's left of my leg muscles... and just as fun as it sounds. My 7 yr old wants to go fishing, and has asked abut it daily for months, so i figure i'll sort it out.

Well another morning has become and I once again have checked and found that I do have the best thing for having a good day---a pulse. My son and I were recently discussing the fact that attitude controls how you perceive your day. If you're grumpy it will be a bad day and if you stay positive even tasks you don't want to do can't make it a bad day. So once again I intend to have a wonderful day.

Saddina, sorry you are having to go through so much with your medical condition and I hope it becomes a little more bearable.

Right now, this morning I am issuing a severe glow alert. Today is the last day for a while that we will have daytime highs in the 80's. The forecast is for 90's with high humidity so you'd better breakout the fans and the deodorant. It sounds like that for the next several days a birthday suit will feel like you are overdressed.

Thanks Opa. The surgeons want to cut, and can't decide what to cut, and the docs want to treat medically, but can't agree on what's wrong either. or more specifically, they've given a diagnosis "internally deranged" but all that really means is that there's a problem in the soft tissues (muscles/ nerves/ tendons) that stops my leg from moving to the side, and extending. They can't agree on where the "ground zero" spot is, or even which kind of soft tissue is crippled. It's kinda like walking up to a blind person and saying "do you know you can't see?"

Yup figured that part out all on my own, thanks. So every 6 months we repeat the same tests looking for a different result (which is friggen nutty too). I think it comes down to the docs don't want to say they can't fix it, so they just hot-potato me to another doc suggesting that maybe the next one can diagnose cause. I'd be just fine if the next guy said "honey that's it, let's get your paperwork finished", but no one wants to tell a woman that she'll never walk again, so they pass me to the next guy to do it.

Good morning Opa!

Saddina - I hope all the suffering this week brings you more confort for the weeks to come.

What a nice cool morning! I can't wait until I can sit out on my deck and have my coffee. So it's confirmed. I have little boy in my baby coop. He is crowing away this morning. I wish I knew which one it was. When I went to the coop this morning he decided he was going to be shy. LOL

Any RIR roos here haven't stayed long, that's for sure. Then again, neither have the hens.

I used to have RIR's (thus the name, RIRJEN) and my Roo was named "Buddy Love". He lived to be just short of 14 yrs and was the sweetest roo with the best personality of any roo I've had. When he passed away I took a break from having chickens and selected a different breed because I knew I wouldn't find another one like Buddy. Man...I could tell you guys some hillarious stories about him!!

I've been tempted to get back into the RIR's just because I liked them so much.

Thanks for the Welcome! I am a very new chicken owner, and raising bobwhite quail also...our 12 started laying eggs so we incubated them! That has been a real struggle

Opa- I agree 100%. Attitude is everything. I try to avoid negative people anymore - they can make themselves miserable, I want to make the best of every day.

I am the same way- but then I have to go to the office and my day/attitude goes downhill. I wish you could taser stupid people.

tasering stupid people sounds a little negative too me (he he). What a muggy morning. Watered the garden to help things survive. Took some snap shots of our coleman camper. We are trying to sell to get money for a BARN!!!! Its on craigslist and facebook market place for our area.

One of the older Isa Browns had part of a shelless egg hanging from her but this morning. Poor thing. I caught her and pulled out what I could then went in with some mineral oil to lube things up. She seems a bit lethargic. Guess she's reaching her expiration date.

Anyone heard from Fife lately?

Gotta bit on the camper, later.
