Home already....my shift anyway. Of course we put in rutabaga!! There were at least 8 or more "choppers", several "peelers" and 3 were just rolling out the dough as I left. It is a small kitchen/dining area and half of the tables were being used. It was fun however and I can't wait to try them out tonight with our Florida guests!

I took pictures of my top 3 roo "keeper" contenders just now...from my Jersey's. I MAY post them on here but will on the Jersey Giant line. (that is IF I can remember how to get them online)

Welcome Kimmiejean! You can talk chickens and gardens here all day long and not get weird looks!

Kimmiejean! It's a nice cooler morning. What a relief from what it has been. Glad you hubby is dong good, Chickb.
Garden is doing great. Lots of cukes and squash, peppers and tomatoes!! Love fresh tomatoes!! Put my two splash orpingtons on the saw horse in the coop last night and they survived the night.

I use the saw horse as a transistional way to introduce them into the coop. Now, the two are happily hanging out in the coop and getting to know their home.
Have a good day, all.

Chikkaboomboom - Your Mom sounds like a sweetheart! Oh, I know Atlanta well. Last year my daughter had her wedding in Hillman at her fiance's father's cabin on Lake Avalon. My two friends and I stayed at Thunderbay Golf Club which is about five miles from the cabin. I have a GPS, but it was not working very well up there and for some reason people who live north of Midland don't mark their roads! Anyway, every time we left the motel to go to the cabin or left the cabin to go back to the motel, or went to the store for something, we got lost and ended up going through Atlanta, which is about 12 miles from Hillman. No matter which way we turned or how we tried to avoid it, we ended up in Atlanta! We started humming the theme to Twilight Zone everytime we got in the car. Other people would leave the motel the same time as us and we would get to the cabin 30 minutes after them because we had to go through Atlanta first! It became (and still is!) the big joke at the wedding that the three of us just couldn't go anywhere without going through Atlanta. Needless to say we wasted a lot of gas making a 24 mile round trip to Atlanta just to get to a cabin that was five miles away!

Kimmiejean - Welcome to the MI thread! Great to have you with us, you'll love it here!

My best friend from Saginaw is coming to spend the weekend with me. We only get to see each other a couple of times a year due to the distance and her work schedule. I stocked up on good stuff to eat and beer and wine coolers and a bottle of good wine so we should be all set. She's never seen my chickens before; as a matter of fact, I don't know that she's seen a chicken close up, so that will be fun! Oh, and she's one of the Atlanta Three, so we can always reminisce about that.

Have a great day everyone, I'm on my way out to mow the lawn.

I hope you ordered the red mulberry (Morus rubra). It is native to Michigan. The white mulberry (Morus alba) was introduced from China and is considered invasive.
The red has darker and sweeter fruit. I have one in my yard and I love it. Lots of fruit this year.

I got Morus alba tatarica, Russian mulberries. I actually didn't know there were native MI ones. I'ma gonna see if I can change or cancel them, since I'd rather plant native plants!

Botanists can't seem to agree if tatrica is a variety of M. alba or it's own unique species.

Stick with the native if you can get it. It has evolved to live here and will out perform the other types.

Go Native, ya'll !

Is anyone else experiencing moulting already with their birds? My chickens seem fine but the ducks are all looking "off". My poor muskovy drake has gone from pretty green to a dull brown and all of my cayugas' necks are white. Some others are looking a bit dull too. I noticed one of my calls (the one with the funky feathers) has all new growth!!! But for him that's a good thing because he was looking terrible most of the summer! One of my roosters has all new growth too.

I hope they're not sick! They don't act sick, they're still the voracious eaters with the same energy level as always. Isn't it too early to be moulting, or is there not a particular "time" for them to start?

I've had ducks my whole life, I just wish I could remember how this stuff works lol
