I just completely cleaned my coop out. Put in fresh pine shavings- orchard grass hay for nest material- and put five eggs back in for the broody boohoos- who were outside the coop throwing tantrums while I cleaned the coop.
I completely tore up and destroyed the nest that the other broody had under the rabbit hutch- in an attempt to get her to move INTO the coop. I put her in there, she flipped out and ran back out. Did that twice to her.
Right now, the broodies are taking dirt baths...and chattering like, "Wow when did the sun get here...and dirt..and look! FOOD..." havent been outside checking out the world in three months..this is cool"

As for me- I have never had such a hard time cleaning out the coop before...coughing, hacking, thought I was suffocating. I guess that is a good sign that I waited too long to completely clean it. Having only two active chickens and the other three broody, well- I havent done it in months. The dust did me in.

I had my grandson Friday until this morning. he enjoyed feeding the geese with me- but what rotten geese they are. They were hell-bent on grabbing him, and even tried going around me to get him...and under his umbrella..
I threatened them with a stew pot.

Nah, Not Pee Pee (how my grandson says Penelope). She just wants food food food...however, Henry would like to swim in a nice stewpot. He is rotten. rotten rotten. Brenden (my grandson) is only 2- and he was plastered to my leg, and Henry wanted to remove his head.

Try an AVIAN vet. We have 3 in Grand Rapids and I believe Nova found one in Holland.

Yup, Maplewood Animal Hospital on Panther Dr. Dr. Bader. He will see ANYTHING. Ok, maybe not if you tried to bring in a cow... But ducks, geese, swans, chickens... They get them all. SO cool.

I have the week off and hope to get a lot done. as usual I planed more projects then time will allow but I might get lucky and finish most of the things I have started around here. Have a nice week everyone

Looks like the Fowl Fest will be in Birch Run this year, not Frankenmuth. I checked the Frankenmuth Chamber of Commerce and they had Grandpa Tiny's Farm Fest in August, but nothing else chicken related for the rest of the year.

Wow! That's surprising. Wonder why Grandpa Tiny isn't doing it anymore?? Oh well, as long as there are chickens, I'll be happy. Hope to see some of you there. There was always a group of BYCers that met for lunch. Everyone is welcome. Hope we'll be able to do it again.

The Fowl Fest Show just got too big for Grandpa's barn so they are trying it at the Expo Center this year to see how it goes. They have on grounds camping, more room, etc. We are working on going with a group to make it more affordable.
